As soon as the sun rises in the east, two 10-member sea rescue groups in blue uniform with a clearly-printed line “Nha Trang Strike Youth Team-Rescuers” silently launch members to go on a patrol along Nha Trang Beach with the responsibility of ensuring safety for the bathers. With just 2 pairs of binoculars, over the past three years, all members in the rescue team, experienced and enthusiastic, have saved more than 20 lives, excluding cases of getting cramp, exhausted, misstepping....

Founded in December, 2000, the humanity rescue team consisted of 7 members affiliated with the Beach Park Management Board. On March 31, 2002, the Beach Park Management Board was disbanded and the humanity rescue group was integrated into the strike youth team. At first, their job was thought to be quite simple. However, it is not true. When on patrol, they have to show good judgment on possible dangers and know how to distinguish between a tourist and a local person, so that they can distribute their observation suitably. Besides rescuing people, the humanity rescue team also has to inform swimmers of danger, join the strike youth team to arrest thieves and robbers, give frequent checks on safety limit buoys... Especially, sometimes, they “grudgingly” became psychologists for many people who came here to end their life. There have been 6 cases of giving up the intentions of committing suicide thanks to the team’s consolation and advice. The couple Ty and Van living near the beach said: “We always see the rescue team on duty at sea no matter how bad the weather is”.

The presence of the two rescue groups on Nha Trang Beach is very helpful and obviously plays an important role in ensuring safety for the local people and tourists when bathing at Nha Trang Beach. Mr Phung Sam- the rescue team leader said: “the project of building two observation stations with first aids on the spot at sea submitted by the team has been approved by the Nha Trang People’s Committee. Each station is 13m high with a 63.5m2-underground floor with an ambulance and a spot doctor. The aims of supporting to the observation and the first aids will be attained, creating favourable conditions for the rescue team to fulfil their duties easier and faster”. The stations are hoped to be built soon so that their rescue can be improved. All people, tourists and the local people will feel safer and more secure when soaking ourselves in the Nha Trang blue water.
