Over the years, the localities and functional units in Khanh Hoa Province have carried out many activities to preserve and promote the cultural monuments and heritages in the province to meet the needs for spiritual and cultural activities of the public.

Focusing on protecting monuments

As reported by Nguyen Tuan Dung, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Center of Monument Preservation, in 2022, the center has checked and provided instructions to renovate nearly 40 national and provincial monuments in the province, protect and promote the historical values of Da Ban Revolutionary Base (Ninh Hoa Town); checked monument steles and monument renovation work in localities. The center has also proposed recognizing the sovereignty stele of Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago on Song Tu Tay and Nam Yet islands as special national monuments; ranking the working house of Doctor Alexandre Yersin at Hon Ba (Cam Lam District); erecting the commemorative stele of the 1968 Tet Offensive in Nha Trang City.

Seven provincial-level monuments in Cam Ranh City have been put in the list of the monuments to be renovated. The city’s authorities and units have paid attention to the management and preservation of monuments. The officials and local people provided support to renovate and embellish monuments. However, the renovation and embellishment of monuments hasn’t yet met the actual needs; the funds for this work are limited and are mainly dependent on budget.

In order to intensify the protection and preservation of monuments, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports has proposed and made a plan on making an inventory of the monuments in the province; provided instructions on making documents for the province’s monuments to be recognized as national treasures. The department also informed the localities about intensification of management of preservation, restoration and embellishment of historical and cultural monuments and scenic places under the direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the instructions of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and Tourism.

Bringing into play spiritual values

The 2022 Ponagar Temple Festival was organized well and solemnly, satisfying the needs for religious activities of people in and outside the province. Other festivals such as Hung Kings’ Death Ceremony, Am Chua and worshiping ceremonies at temples and communal houses were all organized in accordance with regulations.

As for intangible cultural heritages, localities have continued to carry out the preservation and promotion project of Bai Choi. The provincial Department of Culture and Sports successfully organized Khanh Hoa’s Bai Choi open festival; promulgated regulations on the practice of mother-worshiping rituals to help people better understand this cultural and spiritual activity. The provincial Center of Culture and Cinema and the provincial Traditional Arts Theater have organized tens of Bai Choi shows for local people and visitors. The provincial Department of Culture and Sports instructed localities and units to implement the digitization program of Vietnamese cultural heritages in the 2021-2030 period. The department is proposing the Provincial People's Committee issue regulations on heritage protection and promotion in the province so that the protection and promotion work can be carried out with synchrony.

Khanh Hoa Province now has 16 nation-level monuments; 180 province-level monuments; 3 nation-level intangible cultural heritages (Ponagar Temple Festival, Raglai people’s grave-leaving ceremony, Whale Worshipping Festival). Besides, Khanh Hoa is one of the provinces in the central region practicing Bai Choi, an art form inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
