The French book space provides a valuable French book source for readers who are interested in French. In general, the books of authors from many Francophone countries have good content, beautiful presentation and print, helping to enrich the French book resource of the library. "In the past, I mainly looked for French books, documents and textbooks on the Internet or the school's library. This French book space makes it easier for students to learn French,” said Nguyen Hoang Ai Man, a student at the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Khanh Hoa University. Hoang Nguyen Bao Han, an eighth-grade student at Tran Quoc Toan Junior High School (Nha Trang City) likes the French book space because it has many good books, especially books for children. “Reading these books will help me improve my French skills, she said.

Bringing French books to readers

Before the French book space was established, Khanh Hoa Library had had about 6,700 French books, which are mostly old and limited. The French books supported by OIF's project will help students learning French in the province access knowledge about the cultures, countries and peoples of Francophone community more conveniently. The library will make plan to introduce and promote the French book space.

The French book space project of OIF has been implemented since 2012 in Ghana, Seychelles, Guinea, and Arménie. Vietnam is the 5th country selected by OIF to implement the project to strengthen the public library network through sponsoring French books. As said by Kieu Thuy Nga, director of the National Library of Vietnam, the National Library of Vietnam and OIF has surveyed and opened French book spaces at eight public libraries in provinces and cities over the country, including Khanh Hoa. In the future, Khanh Hoa Library needs to promote propaganda and introduction of the French book space and carry out activities to encourage French book reading in community.

Many schools in Khanh Hoa Province are teaching French, according to Nguyen Van Thien, director of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports. Therefore, there is a quite big demand for French books. The establishment of the French book space will attract more and more readers to the library. The provincial Library need to implement the professional guidelines of the National Library of Vietnam and proactively carry out necessary activities to bring French books to community.
