Recently, Khanh Hoa Provincial Museum and the provincial Center of Monument Preservation have cooperated with many schools in the province to organize activities to improve the understanding of cultural heritage values of students.

Positive signs

On the occasion of last Mid-autumn Festival, the provincial Museum cooperated with some voluntary organizations and benefactor to organize a visit to the museum for 150 ethnic minority pupils of Suoi Tien Primary School (Dien Khanh District) and Khanh Hoa - Jeju Primary School (Cam Lam District). During the visit, the pupils contemplated the exhibits and took part in cultural activities at the museum. Earlier, the museum had received many groups of pupils from other localities in the province. The museum has also cooperated with schools to display photos and documents about cultural heritages at schools.

Nearly 1,600 pupils and teachers of more than 30 schools in the province participated in the visits to Ponagar Temple and Hon Chong scenic spot organized by the provincial Center of Monument Preservation. Through the visits, the pupils and teachers were provided with information and knowledge about the values of the two nation-level monument and scenic spot. The center also launched an online contest about cultural heritages on its website, receiving nearly 4,000 entries of pupils over the province. The quality entries were given prizes.

In October, the provincial Center of Monument Preservation cooperates with the local people’s committees across the province to organize the provincial Contest on Cultural Heritages 2022. After two years of suspension due to Covid-19, the 2022 contest has received active response from the schools. The localities have selected their most outstanding teams to take part in the province-level contest scheduled for the end of October.

Towards more frequent cooperation

Reportedly, the provincial Museum is making a plan on cooperation with schools in Nha Trang City to organize extracurricular activities at the museum for pupils. The museum has prepared exhibitions with suitable themes for pupils. The content and forms of display are expected to be more diverse when the project to digitize the museum’s collection is put into operation. The museum aims to cooperate with all the schools in the province so that more and more pupils will visit and learn knowledge at the museum and that the museum will become a favorite place of teachers and pupils.

As said by the leader of the provincial Center of Monument Preservation, basing on the past activities, the center will continue to make plan for future activities with suitable changes for teachers and pupils. The center will make better preparation for the activities in the future in terms of content, forms of organization and staff who get involved in the activities.

Reportedly, increasing the number of extracurricular activities for students is an important content in the curriculum of high schools. In recent years, education in local history, philology, geography, etc. have been incorporated into school curriculum. Therefore, cooperation with cultural units to organize activities for students to learn at monuments, scenic places and museums is the actual need of schools. The knowledge and experience gained from the extracurricular activities will help pupils perceive the local historical and cultural knowledge better.
