After 18 times organizing Kite Awards in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Cinema Association has selected Nha Trang City as the venue for the 19th Kite Awards. Associate Professor - PhD Do Lenh Hung Tu, President of Vietnam Cinema Association, gave a talk about the 2021 awards.
The activities of the 19th Kite Awards take place in Nha Trang from September 8 to 13. Selecting Nha Trang as the venue for the 2021 awards, Vietnam Cinema Association hopes to refresh the image of the awards. This has been actively supported by Khanh Hoa Province’s leaderships and related departments, sectors, businesses and organizations. Besides, the awards is expected to boost the local tourism, increase and strengthen connections between cinema and tourism.

- What are the main activities of the 2021 Kite Awards?

The activities include free screening of 12 nominated films at many cinemas in Nha Trang. On September 13 morning, there is a seminar namely Khanh Hoa - ideal connection point between cinema and tourism. At the seminar, leaderships of Khanh Hoa Province, tourism industry, tourism businesses, film managers, artists, etc. will discuss and exchange ideas on related subjects in order to find solutions to connect cinema and tourism in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa. The delegates will also visit some scenic sites in the city to help promote the images of Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa.
- The red carpet event of the 19th Kite Awards takes place at Khanh Hoa Provincial Conference Center (46 Tran Phu Street, Nha Trang City) at 5pm on September 13. During the event, 19 kites representing 19 editions of Kite Awards will be flown at 2-4 Square (Nha Trang City); some beautifully decorated cruisers will be arranged at the sea area near the square. Additionally, 19 stalls displaying local specialties will be arranged at the square; 19 screening spots showing classic movies of Vietnam will be arranged along the coastal park. The awarding ceremony of the 19th Kite Awards takes place inside the provincial Conference Center, starting at 8pm, featuring over 300 delegates. The ceremony will last 110 minutes and be broadcast live on VTV9 and KTV.
- What is your assessment of the entries nominated for the 2021 Kite Awards?
- The 2012 Kite Awards received 147 entries in the categories of movies, television series, scientific documentaries, cartoons, short films, and theoretical research works, etc. The jury assessed and selected the most excellent entries and individuals for the prizes. In general, the entries sent to the 2021 Kite Awards are rich and diverse in themes, content and forms. The 19th awards also features the participation of many domestic film studios, including state and private studios. The awards always gives prominence to professional quality and art quality.
- According to you, will the organization of Kite Awards in Nha Trang this time set a premise for the organization of other editions of the awards in Nha Trang?

It can be seen that the organization of Kite Awards has been better and better, contributing to the awards’ increasing prestige. With the organization of the 19th Kite Awards in Nha Trang, we hope that it will create favorable conditions for the next organization in the city. After the awards ends, Vietnam Cinema Association often holds a conference to review the films' quality as well as to make a plan for the next edition of the awards. 2023 is the year marking the 70th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Cinema Day and the 20th anniversary of Kite Awards. We hope that Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa will continue to be the venue for the awards.
