Many cultural activities for children

In the first months of 2021, despite being affected by COVID-19, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports and its affiliated units have tried to hold many cultural contests and activities for children in compliance with the pandemic prevention and control guidelines.

In response to this year’s Vietnam Book Day, Khanh Hoa provincial library held many activities for pupils over the province. Specifically, the unit made some additions to its children’s reading room; offered 194 books to Mai Xuan Thuong Junior High School and Nguyen Van Troi High School (Nha Trang City); circulated 4,420 publications to 20 primary and junior high schools in the province; and held roving book reading sessions with 1,608 books at schools. Besides, the provincial library has also kept providing its on-site services for children such as painting, coloring, sculpture painting, book exhibitions, etc. to maintain useful playground for children and foster their love for books.

Khanh Hoa currently has 91 commune-level centers of culture and sports, 587 hamlet-level culture-sport places. Most of the commune-level centers of culture and sports have areas for children to play football, badminton, etc.
The 2021 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest for all pupils and students over Khanh Hoa organized by the provincial Department of Culture and Sports has been taking place since the beginning of April. The contest aims to arouse the interest of pupils and students in reading and help to promote reading movement among young people in the province. The excellent entries of the preliminary round will be selected for the national final round. The contest so far has been popular and received good response from the schools and localities.

The 2020 provincial Children's Fine Arts contest received more than 40,000 entries from the children in eight districts, towns and cities across the province. The organizers have selected 125 excellent works for gold, silver, bronze and consolation prizes. The awarding ceremony is expected to be held at an appropriate time in the future.

In addition, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports has cooperated with the provincial Department of Education and Training, and the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to carry out the activities to prevent drowning in children and incorporate the information about children's accidents prevention and control into training classes or physical training sessions.

According to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, some cultural and art activities for children in the province did not take place as originally planned due to the complex COVID-19 evolution. Scales, ways of organization and schedules were changed to suit the situations. The organized activities partly showed the province’s concern for the spiritual life of children. In the future, the units under the department will try to hold book storytelling contest and cultural heritage learning contest for children.

The inspections have also been strengthened to limit the negative impacts from Internet cafés and gaming cafés. Videos and publications with bad content for children have also been closely checked by the authorities. All violations have been strictly handled. All aim to create a good environment for children.
