Nha Trang City’s 15th folk music festival was recently organized at 2-4 Square (Nha Trang) to ramp up the atmosphere and bring the locals and tourists pleasure in the days leading to Lunar New Year 2021.
Over the past 15 years, Nha Trang City’s folk music festival is held annually on the occasion of Lunar New Year not only to welcome New Year but also to promote folk songs and introduce this form of traditional music to more locals and tourists in the city. The festival is also a useful playground for the amateur performing art groups in the city to exchange and learn from each other. This year’s festival was joined by 17 groups from 27 wards and communes over Nha Trang. The amateur artists performed 32 performances of Bai Choi, Cai Luong (reformed theater) Nghe Tinh folk songs, Quan Ho folk songs, etc. about the Communist Party, Uncle Ho, spring, national sea and islands, and so on.
The songs were full of emotions about the motherland and the artists’ performances connected with the songs emotionally, which drew audience engagement into the performances. The elaborate scenery partly reflected the careful preparation for the festival of the participants, localities and organization committee. “This is the first time I have joined the city’s folk music festival. My team members helped me a lot so that I could perform well. Taking part in the festival helped me to show my love for folk music and gave me confidence to join the festivals in the future,” said Le Vy Cam Tu, a member of Van Thang team, Vinh Ngoc Commune.
Previously, the city’s folk music festival was often a part of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Spring Flower Festival held at Yen Phi Park. This Year, it was held at 2-4 Square with a larger stage. This required the performing art groups to put more effort into their preparation in order to create engaging performances and build rapport with the audience. The participants included in their performances the traditional music of three regions in the country and arranged some pieces of folk music with new lyrics. Thanks to this, the 2021 festival was generally well received by the audience.
Reportedly, the organization committee also tried to enrich the content of the 2021 festival so that the localities could show their talent and strength. Therefore, the festival was relatively rich in forms of music; many teams created a distinctive color for their performances. Meritorious Artist Tran Nhat Le, a member of the jury of this year’s festival, highly appreciated the careful preparation made by the participants as well as the quality of their performances.
The prizes give to the outstanding performances at the end of the festival were the rewards and recognition for the practice and creativeness of the artists.
