Colorful world of children

Khanh Hoa Province’s Fine Art Contest for Children entered its eleventh year and has become a meaningful contest where the children who love painting over the province can express their creativity, imagination and perspectives on life through colorful paintings.

The awarding ceremony of the 11th Fine Art Contest for Children of Khanh Hoa Province was held recently by the provincial Department of Culture and Sports. Launched from November 2019, the contest received 33,798 entries of teenagers and children across the province. Cam Ranh City had the most entries (9,733), followed by Nha Trang City (6,321), Dien Khanh District (4,917), Van Ninh District (4,886), and Ninh Hoa Town (4,860).

Over many years, the contest has contributed to promote fine art teaching in schools. Ly Tu Trong Nursery School (Nha Trang) has encouraged their children to join the contest for many years. The children are given initial instructions about basic painting skills, coloring skills, and painting designs. The nursery school also holds school-level contests to select the children with outstanding drawing skills to take part in the city and provincial contests.

The fine art contests provide opportunities for children to show their love for painting as well as prove their painting skills. Through the paintings, they can express their inner world. The paintings often reflect the children’s feelings and perspectives on life. Nursery children often draw their favorite things such as playful activities of Mid-Autumn Festival, Lunar New Year. They also love to express their happiness when they hang out at the beach or with their parents. The topics in the paintings of primary school pupils often range from festivals, traffic safety, landscape, to environmental protection, etc. Meanwhile, besides familiar topics such as activities on Lunar New Year, junior high school pupils portray social issues, daily activities, family, soldiers, and so on.

In her entry, Cao Ngoc Phuong Tuyen, 8th grade pupil at Nguyen Tri Phuong Junior High School (Ninh Hoa Town), portrayed the happiness when the whole family gathers for meal. “I love painting because it helps me to express my thoughts about everything around me,” said Tuyen.

According to painter Tran Ha, chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, the entries sent to this year's fine art contest for children had clear topics, good designs, and bright colors. The paintings were drawn with many materials such as crayon, marker, color powder, and torn paper. Some of the contestants drew paintings chronicling COVID-19 crisis.

The organizers of Khanh Hoa’ 2020 Fine Arts Contest For Children gave 375 prizes (golds, silvers, bronzes, consolation prizes) for the excellent paintings of 125 kindergarten children, 125 primary school pupils, and 125 junior high school pupils; certificates of merit to 17 bureaus of education and training in the province and nine schools with many prize-winners.
