Khanh Hoa Province has determined two plans for the construction project of the provincial art performance center after a period of time looking for a location to build this significant cultural work.

Work meeting national standards

The construction project of the provincial art performance center is very necessary to improve the quality of Khanh Hoa’s cultural and art activities and satisfy the locals’ and tourists’ increasing demand for enjoying cultural and art performances. The center is planned to be built in accordance with national standards for a theatre and satisfy the following main requirements: being located at urban center, residential area, park, or tourist site; having convenient transportation; being away from loud noise sources, toxic gas sources and places with high risk of fire and explosion. Accordingly, Khanh Hoa’s art performance center is expected to have seating capacity for 500 to 700 and cover an area of 5,000 square meters.

Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa needs a quality art performance center
Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa needs a quality art performance center

Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee in June 2019 approved the construction of the provincial art performance center at Nha Trang central urban area for commerce, service, finance, and tourism.

The provincial People’s Council in December 2019 released a resolution on a medium-term public investment in 5 years from 2021 to 2025. Accordingly, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports was appointed as the construction project’s investor. The total construction investment was estimated at around VND70 billion from the State budget. The art performance center will be a place for the province’s art and cultural activities and for working and practicing of the artists of the provincial Traditional Art Theatre and Hai Dang Song and Dance Troupe.

Second plan for location

On April 24, 2020, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee had a meeting with the provincial departments, agencies, and localities about the construction project of the provincial art performance center. At the meeting, leadership of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports suggested the second plan for the location of the art performance center at the area of the 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium. In particular, the 40,520-square-meter area of the stadium was suggested to be zoned for the province’s cultural and sports activities instead of for trade, services, park and underground parking as being planned before. The leadership of the provincial Department of Construction proposed to keep the original plan of the area of the 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium.

As stated by Permanent Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, Nguyen Dac Tai, the location at Nha Trang central urban area for commerce, service, finance, and tourism is suitable and meets necessary standards for the art performance center. Besides, the province’s leadership is considering a plan to build the center at the area which had been zoned for Nha Trang Sao project (Vinh Tho Ward).

Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, stated that the area zoned for Nha Trang Sao project would be an appropriate location for the provincial art performance center project which would be combined with the construction and embellishment of Hon Do into a cultural, artistic and spiritual complex. He also decided to still keep the project to build the center at Nha Trang central urban area for commerce, service, finance, and tourism.

The determination of the two locations for the provincial art performance center is a necessary prerequisite for implementing the next steps of the project. Hopefully, in a near future, Nha Trang City in particular and Khanh Hoa Province in general will have an art work which is commensurate with the city’s and province’s cultural and tourism development.
