Nguyen Khac Ha, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports reported that there have been some positive changes in the preservation and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritages in the province.

Khanh Hoa Province now has 16 national monuments and scenic spots, three national intangible cultural heritages, one intangible cultural heritages of humanity organized by UNESCO, 174 provincial monuments, 56 unranked monuments. The localities over the province were assigned to manage these monuments. The provincial Heritage Conservation Center under the provincial Department of Culture and Sports has supported and given more than VND8 billion to the localities to repair 12 degraded monuments.

The provincial Department of Culture and Sports will continue to examine and restore the monuments based on the plan for 2018-2020 period.  Some large-scaled projects will be also executed, for example second stage of Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel restoration project, construction of road leading to Doctor Alexandre Yersin’s tomb in Cam Lam District, temple to Tran Duong (a nobleman) in Van Ninh District, building of stele of instruction at Mui Doi – Hon Doi tourist site, and so on.

In 2018, the Provincial Department of Culture and Sports of Khanh Hoa organized training course on protection and promotion of monuments’ values at Van Ninh District. Some training classes were also organized to offer knowledge about Bài Chòi, which was officially inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2017, to the cultural officers over the province. In addition, the department also planed to incorporate Bài Chòi into the schools’ programs.

On the occasions and holidays, the units under the department also often visit and encourage the management committees of the monuments. The cooperative organization for traditional festivals has been carried out more closely and effectively. The services at the tourist sites like Ponagar Temple and Hon Chong have also been improved. Ponagar Temple Festival 2018 was organized solemnly and safely with the participation of more than 100 groups of pilgrims and over 100,000 visitors.

As of now, Khanh Hoa has held 12 district-level contests and one province-level contests on cultural heritages. These contests received good response from the units and schools and become useful extra-curricular activities for students, providing the knowledge and increasing their awareness of cultural heritage preservation.

The second provincial contest on cultural heritages of Khanh Hoa is going to take place on November 25 as an activity to celebrate the Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day.
