Two children left orphans need help

Husband and wife Nguyen Thai Chi (born in 1985) and Trinh Thi Yen Oanh (born in 1988) living in Tan Duc Tay Hamlet, Van Luong Commune, Van Ninh District died in a boat accident over one month ago, leaving their old and weak mother and two children.

As said by Ngo Thi Ngoc Tuyet, Chi’s sister-in-law, Chi and Oanh earned a living by collecting oysters to sell to rafts as shrimp feed. They often worked on boat until late in the evening. They have two children Nguyen Thai Tram Anh (born in 2009, eighth-grade student) and Nguyen Thai Gia Huy (born in 2012, fifth-grade student). Disaster befell their family on October 4. The husband and wife died after their boat was overturned by large waves and strong winds. The children became orphans.

Chi and Oanh lived with and looked after Chi’s 85-year-old mother Vo Thi Nang. Nang has been distressed by the death of her son and daughter-in-law. She is now very worried about the current circumstance of her family and the future of her two grandchildren. Tram Anh and Gia Huy are now relying on the support and care from their relatives.

Nang’s family is a nearly-poor household in Van Luong Commune. They receive an old age pension of VND360 thousand per month which can't afford their cost of living and school fees of Tram Anh and Gia Huy. Reportedly, Tan Duc Tay Hamlet’s Women’s Branch is preparing documents to help the family receive social welfare payments for orphans and poor household.

Hopefully, people everywhere will offer support to help the family of the two orphans overcome the difficulties.

People who want to help Nang’s family can contact Ngo Thi Ngoc Tuyet (tel: 0708095606), or Khanh Hoa Newspaper office (tel: 0258.3822019) at 77 Yersin St., Nha Trang City. Support can also be sent to Khanh Hoa Newspaper’s bank account at Vietcombank Nha Trang (account number 0581000765262).
