Nguyen Duy Quan, living in Tan Lap Hamlet, Cam Phuoc Tay Commune, Cam Lam District, was born in 20013 with a clubfoot.

Since 2004 to 2014, Quan underwent four operations on his left foot at Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Traumatology and Orthopaedics and Quy Nhon City Orthopedic and Rehabilitation to help his foot to be in correct position. Unfortunately, while the left foot was not fully treated, Quan’s right foot started to have the symptoms of muscle atrophy and clubfoot. Since 2015 to the end of July 2018, he was treated with two more operations.

Nguyen Quang Trung (born in 1974), Quan’s father, earns a living of around VND250 thousand per day as a mason; he is jobless in the rainy or stormy days. The earning of his wife, Luong Thi Thu Ngoc (born in 1977), from farming is also low. Their family has been a nearly-poor household in the commune. The husband and wife had to mortgage their house to borrow VND50 million to afford their son’s surgeries.

Another misfortune happened to Quan’s family. His whole body suddenly swelled up, which was found to be nephrotic syndrome. After taking medicine for a period of time, in May 2019, his body swelled again. He was carried to Binh Dan Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) to have medical examination. Taking medicine prescribed by the doctor, Quan’s disease progressed well. However, the symptom recurred while he was visiting his relatives in Hanoi. He was diagnoses with neurogenic bladder which requires long-time treatment to prevent vesicoureteral reflux. Quan has had to insert a urinary catheter four to six times per day due to urine incontinence.

Quan’s family mortgaged their house, which is their most valuable property. Quan’s older brother, Nguyen Duy Tan, who had been Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport third-year student, had to drop out of the university to support his brother and family.

Hopefully, the readers and sponsors everywhere will offer assistance to Quan’s family so that his disease can be treated and get better.
