Many people feel a deep sorrow with a family that is homeless and has 4 out of 5 members suffering from serious diseases.

Suffering from serious diseases

The whole family of Nguyen Thi Nga is living in a temporary 12-square-meter house which was made of old corrugated iron sheets in a clearance area at Group 2, Van Gia Town, Van Ninh District. The most valuable thing in the house is a threadbare camp bed.

Nguyen Thi Nga and Ho The Tuong have 3 children. They lived happily until many misfortunes came to their family. Within 6 months, Nga’s father and mother died of cancer. Some years later, Nga’s two older sisters were also found to have this serious disease. During that time, Nguyen Thi Nga had her health checked and was diagnosed to suffer from cervical cancer. In order to have treatment and feed the three little children, Nga and her husband had to sell everything in their house and even their small house in Nha Trang City.

Being homeless, the whole family came to Van Gia, Nga’s husband’s hometown, to earn the living and make money for Nga’s treatment. In 3 years, Nguyen Thi Nga had to be hospitalized to treat other serious disease, multiple rectal polyps. After two surgeries in Ho Chi Minh City, the whole of her large intestine was cut, causing her to depend permanently on specific.

Dragging out miserable existence.

Other misfortunes successively came to their family. Nga’s two daughters were screened to have the same disease with her; meanwhile, her husband has bronchial cancer. That means 4 out of 5 members in her family are suffering from serious diseases. They cannot borrow money from anyone because they have not paid off the old debts yet.

“We are homeless now because of diseases. Since we moved to this clearance area, we have been expelled for ten times because people were afraid that we will appropriate the land. Our children have to leave school to support the family. We are now live on my eldest daughter’s meager earnings,” Nguyen Thi Nga said in a voice choked with emotion.

Previously, Ho The Tuong, Nga’s husband, worked as a fisherman in other people’s boats. Since he had bronchial cancer, he has not been hired by the boat’s owners because of his weak health condition. Although he had serious disease, he has to go to the sea to catch fishes everyday to support the family. Because there is not enough money to buy a basket, Tuong has to immerse himself in the sea, causing his disease to be more serious.

Nga’s family now depends totally on the eldest daughter, Ho Thi Diem Chi. Becoming the main labour in the family, the 17-year-old girl who also has the same disease with her mother but in early stage, has to earn living to support 4 sick people and the youngest child. Despite hard work, she earns only VND30,000 per day. In rough season, the whole family has to move heaven and earth to borrow money to cover their daily needs.

Their neighbours subscribed to help them with their miserable condition; however, the amount of money is negligible.

Representatives of Khanh Hoa Newspaper visited and gave Nga’s family VND3,000,000 from Khanh Hoa Newspaper’s charity fund offered VND1,000,000 to her family to buy a basket.

Nga’s family hope to receive supports from organizations and individuals. All the supports can be sent to Nguyen Thi Nga (01693861439) or the charity box of Khanh Hoa Newspaper  at 77 Yersin St., Nha Trang City.
