At least 1m social housing apartments to be built in 2021 – 2030

On May 19, the Ministry of Construction held an online conference  to develop a scheme to build at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income earners and workers at industrial parks nationwide in the period 2021 – 2030.

After the Prime Minister signed Decision 338/QD-TTg approving a scheme to build at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income earners and workers at industrial parks, period 2021 – 2030, the Ministry of Construction has completed the draft amended housing law adopted by the Government and submitted to the National Assembly at the 5th session.

Land funds for social housing development in urban area and commercial housing construction projects will be put under consideration.

According to the report of the Department of Construction, Khanh Hoa will have 7,800 social housing apartments, including 3,400 apartments in 2021 – 2025 period and 4,400 in 2026 – 2030.

Before December 31, 2020, 16 projects with nearly 3,700 apartments were built and completed in Khanh Hoa. In the 2021 – 2025, Khanh Hoa has completed the construction of 3 social housing projects with nearly 3,000 apartments and approved in principle the investment in 2 projects with over 4,400 apartments, namely Hung Phu Social Housing Building with 1,221 apartments on 2-4 Street, Nha Trang City and Cam Nghia Housing Building with 3,000 apartments in Cam Ranh. Besides, 2 social housing projects, namely 02 Social House Building in Phuoc Long New Urban Area and Cam Ranh Social Housing Building, are underway.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, in the period of 2022 - 2025, the province has planned to construct more than 4,800 social apartments, basically achieving the housing goals. In the coming time, after the social housing planning is approved, the Department of Construction will provide counseling for the Provincial People's Committee to continue calling for investment in social housing to meet the goals set out by the scheme.

To implement the project, the Provincial People's Committee has recently requested the Department of Construction to review, report and give proposals related to the allocation of 20% of the land fund for social housing in commercial housing construction projects.

The Department of Construction has established a delegation to inspect the implementation of land fund for investment and development of social housing in investment projects to build commercial houses and urban areas.

In the third quarter of 2023, the Department of Construction will report inspection results to the Provincial People's Committee to  make sure clean land funds available for social housing projects to meet the social housing development goals.
