Although newly put into operation, the international passenger terminal (in Cam Ranh International Airport) has been overloaded by the high growth of passengers. Cam Ranh International Terminal Joint Stock Company (CRTC) is requesting the authorities to allow the installation of additional equipment to increase capacity to serve passengers.

According to CRTC leadership, the first phase of the international passenger terminal (including stages 1A and 1B) was built with a total floor area of 50,500m2. The phase 1A has been finished and officially put into operation from June 30, 2018, with the highest service capacity of 2.5 million passengers/year. The phase 1B of the project is to install additional equipment to increase the capacity to serve 4 million passengers/year.

In 2019, tourism activities develop, the number of passengers through the airport reached more than 6.5 million while the capacity of the phase 1A only allows 2.5 million passengers/year, so the actual capacity has been 2.6 times higher.

In order to overcome the above situation, CRTC has submitted a written request to the Ministry of Transport (MOT), Vietnam Aviation Administration to allow investors to continue equipping and installing complete equipment systems, raising capacity to 4 million passengers/year. Specifically, the additional equipment includes 2 check-in areas with 16 counters, 2 conveyor systems for luggage handling for passengers coming and going, and an elevator outside the station.

The leadership of Cam Ranh International Airport said that the additional investment in equipment contributes to upgrading the airport’s infrastructure, especially the construction to fully expand and synchronize the international terminal after putting the take-off road 2 came into operation in October 2019. This is also a motivation to increase the competitiveness, attract international tourists to Khanh Hoa, and promote the socio-economic development of the province in the future.

Ms. Le Thi Hong Minh - General Director of CRTC said that on March 5, the company worked with the Ministry of Transport on installing additional equipment to increase the capacity of the station. At the meeting, the Ministry of Transport agreed on the policy for investors to soon deploy it to serve passengers better in the future.
