Khanh Hoa Province’s karate team doesn’t have many athletes; however, with the efforts and high determination of the athletes, the team are expected to maintain their good achievements at the 9th National Sports Festival scheduled for the end of 2022.

Khanh Hoa’s karate used to place among top 20 strong units in the country, winning gold medals at the national tournaments, national sports festivals and SEA Games. After that, the karate movement in Khanh Hoa has stalled for a period of time. At the recent National Sports Festival, Khanh Hoa karate athletes achieved one silver medal and one bronze medal. Although that was not excellent result, it helped the provincial team have an objective view on the quality of karate movement in the province, thereby focusing on building athletes force, especially young ones, towards better achievements in the future.

Currently, together with other high-achievement sports teams, Khanh Hoa provincial karate team are actively practicing for the 9th National Sports Festival. The team has seven athletes competing in combat event and two athletes competing in demonstrative event. They have set a target to defend their silver medal and secure better achievements at the upcoming sports festival. As said by Tran Quoc Tien, deputy coach of Khanh Hoa provincial karate team, in recent years, Khanh Hoa’s karate has shown positive signs. For example, the provincial team won eight gold medals at the domestic tournaments last year.

Among the athletes registering for the 9th National Sports Festival, Khanh Hoa’ karate has high expectations for Mai Quoc Tan and Bach Thanh Trong. At the recent Nation Junior Karate Tournament, Bach Thanh Trong aged 15 overcame a member of the national team to secure the gold medal. This achievement helped Trong be promoted to the national team to practice for future international tournaments.

Reportedly, the movement of karate and other martial arts in the province is developing quite strongly; however, there is a lack of connection among units, localities, clubs, and dojos. In the long run, investing and training athletes, especially young athletes, are a top priority, requiring cooperation of the authorities, sports sector and associations.

Among the provincial high-achieving sports teams preparing for the 9th National Sports Festival, the karate team are showing the most obvious progress and are expected to develop strongly in the future.
