Thai Son Bac are displaying quite impressively this season. After six rounds, the team sit at the top of the table with 14 points (four wins, two draws), scoring 20 goals, conceding six goals, and having goal difference of +11. Sahako are on the second with the same points and number of matches with Thai Son Bac but are lower on goal difference (+6). The 2021 champions Thai Son Nam are on third with two points off the top two and have played one match more than the two.

In the 2021 season, Thai Son Nam didn’t perform well; however, they gradually proved their competence of a team who had won 11 championships. They secured wins in important matches to place in the top two. This year, Thai Son Nam have had three draws and one loss. Previously, they only had difficulties playing against strong teams such as Sahako, Zetbit Saigon, Thai Son Bac or Sanvinest Khanh Hoa. However, in the 2022 tournament, they had to fight hard and struggle to overcome weaker opponents namely Hung Gia Khang Dak Lak and Hieu Hoa Da Nang. According to head coach Pham Minh Giang of Thai Son Nam, one of the reasons for the bad achievements of Thai Son Nam this season so far is the narrowed gap of quality between the participating teams. The team will make more careful preparation for the return leg played in Ho Chi Minh City.

The fourth-placed to seventh-placed teams on the table, Saigon FC, Hieu Hoa Da Nang, Sanvinest Khanh Hoa and Hung Gia Khang Dak Lak, have also been in a fierce battle for points. After seven matches, Saigon FC have got 11 points, ranking 4th, two points higher than the second-placed Hieu Hoa Da Nang (nine points). Meanwhile, after a tough start playing with strong teams, Sanvinest Khanh Hoa won points against mid-range teams, including two wins against Hieu Hoa Da Nang, Cao Bang and a draw against Hung Gia Khang Dak Lak. Currently, after seven matches, Sanvinest Khanh Hoa have got eight points, an acceptable result for the team that has been in the middle of force rejuvenation. In the eighth round, Sanvinest Khanh Hoa will face Tan Hiep Hung, who are going through a difficult period, sitting at the bottom of the table with three points after six matches.

In the 2021 tournament, Sanvinest Khanh Hoa thrashed Tan Hiep Hung 7-0. Hopefully, this will help the team of Khanh Hoa play confidently and grab three points to improve their position on the table and catch up with the top teams before the return leg.
