Khanh Hoa Province’s athletics delegation achieved many medals at the recently-organized Thong Nhat Speed Cup Athletics Tournament and Ho Chi Minh City Marathon Tournament. Many of the medal winners were 16 and 17 years old. The achievements and confident performances of the young athletes at these tournaments are a good sign for the development of Khanh Hoa’s athletics in the future.
Since the beginning of 2022, Vietnam Athletics Federation has cooperated with units and localities in the country to organize many tournaments, which served as the preparations for SEA Games 31 and the Ninth National Sports Festival. At the Ninth Ho Chi Minh City Marathon Tournament taking place in Ho Chi Minh City on April 17, joined by more than 7,500 professional and amateur athletes of units and localities across the country, three female athletes of Khanh Hoa won three gold medals in marathon (42km), half marathon (21km) and 10km. Athlete Nguyen Thi Thuy Van of Khanh Hoa outstandingly displayed high determination and prominent effort; she accelerated in the last 10km to overcome her opponent, who had been 2km ahead of her, finishing first at 1:29:27. Other young athletes of Khanh Hoa also obtained one silver medal and two bronze medals in the event of 10km.

Before the Ninth Ho Chi Minh City Marathon Tournament, Khanh Hoa’s sports fielded 28 athletes to Thong Nhat Speed Cup Athletics Tournament taking place from April 4 to 9. Khanh Hoa’s athletes competed in the events for professionals and juniors and achieved three gold medals, seven silver medals, and seven bronze medals. Khanh Hoa’s delegation placed 10 out of 37 delegations on the medal rankings. In the previous years, this tournament was mainly a competition between national athletes. This year, the national athletics team are preparing for SEA Games 31; therefore, most of the units and localities fielded their young athletes.
In this tournament, Khanh Hoa’s athletics showed their good investment in young athletes. Many young athletes of Khanh Hoa participated in the tournament for the first time and performed well. For example, athletes Tran Huy Tien and Nguyen Minh Tai won gold medal in junior team’s 4x400m and bronze medals in men’s 400m and 400m hurdles. In professional event, Khanh Hoa athletes also gained two gold medals in male and female teams’ 4x400m relays.
In four months, Khanh Hoa’s athletics took part in two tournaments and achieved 14 gold medals, 11 silver medals and 12 bronze medals. This is an encouraging result of the province’s athletics, helping the provincial team to prepare for the Ninth National Sports Festival scheduled for the end of the year.
