Khanh Hoa Provincial Beach Football Tournament 2022 took place last week at Thanh Nien Park (Nha Trang City). Ninh Hoa Town and Cam Ranh City didn’t have enough players for the tournament due to the impacts of COVID-19; therefore, this year’s tournament only saw the participation of six teams instead of eight teams like the previous ones. Although the venue of the tournament is quite far from the city center, a lot of people came to see the games and cheered the teams on.

Some people like to see beach football because the players often shoot beautiful volleys or score goals in surprising situations. In this year’s tournament, there were also quite many surprisingly interesting goals that changed the games, for example the final game between Nha Trang City and Khanh Son District. The game was quite even until the last minutes of the game when a player of Nha Trang made a fail header, which rebounded off the ground and rolled into the goal of Khanh Son, extending Nha Trang’s lead to 3-1. The second conceded goal affected the competing spirit of Khanh Son players. Although Khanh Son succeeded in pulling back a goal, they finally lost the championship to Nha Trang.
This year’s beach football tournament also saw the roughly equal in quality of the teams. For many years, Nha Trang has always been strong in beach football. The team has many quality players, who have had much experience in movement football in Khanh Hoa. Therefore, it was not surprising that they won the championship. Meanwhile, the impressive performances of Khanh Son, a team from a mountainous area, surprised the spectators. Five years ago, Khanh Son displayed excellent performances and won against Cam Ranh City in the final game of the 2017 Beach Football Tournament. However, in some recent tournaments, Khanh Son had been not competitive for the top four places and had been often eliminated from group stage. Therefore, Khanh Son’s result at the 2022 tournament was encouraging.
Besides Khanh Son, another team from mountainous area taking part in Khanh Hoa’s 2022 Beach Football Tournament, Khanh Vinh District, also showed their good investment in this sport. They finished third. It was the third consecutive time Khanh Vinh have placed in the top four positions.
The quality of the provincial Beach Football Tournament and beach football movement in the localities has been maintained quite well. Khanh Son and Khanh Vinh are in mountainous areas and don’t have favorable conditions and facilities for this sport like other localities. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports has highly appreciated their efforts in maintaining this sport and their encouraging achievements.
