For many years, Khanh Hoa Province has carried out well the implementation and cooperation in organizing swimming programs to prevent drowning among children. This is the basis for the province to effectively implement the program on safe swimming and drowning prevention for children in the period 2021 - 2030.

Summer swimming classes for children have been held in Nha Trang City since 2013. The swimming competitions held after these classes have also helped to attract more and more children to swimming.

The provincial Department of Culture and Sports organized annual provincial swimming tournaments from 2018 to 2020, joined by hundreds of people from many units and localities in the province. The province’s sports and education sectors have also coordinated with each other to organize swimming and diving training courses for primary and secondary school teachers.

The provincial People’s Committee has recently issued the plan to implement the program on safe swimming and drowning prevention for children in the period 2021 – 2030. The plan aims to strengthen the authority of the authorities and organizations in managing and organizing swimming activities and developing the movement of safe swimming and drowning prevention among children in the province; mobilize all resources to effectively implement the safe swimming and drowning prevention program for children from 6 to under 16 years old in the province.

According to the plan, the province will hold a ceremony to encourage people to practice swimming as well as to launch summer activities and swimming competitions for children in May and on June 1 every year. Swimming teaching competencies of swimming teachers will be improved, and swimming lessons will be taught in more diverse methods. The province will hold 1-2 classes for swimming instructors and lifeguards. Each district and town will hold swimming classes of at least 25-30 pupils.

The province and localities in the province make the most of existing facilities and call for public contributions to build swimming pools. The localities also need to set aside land and investment funds for building swimming pools with priority given to areas near schools and densely populated areas.

According to the plan on safe swimming and drowning prevention for children in the 2025-2030 period of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, 60% of children aged 6 to under 16 know water safety skills and 70% in 2030; 50% of children aged 6 to under 16 know how to swim safely and 60% in 2030; 100% of establishments providing swimming, diving and water activities have swimming coaches and instructors and lifeguards, who are trained and certified by competent authorities; 90 - 95% of households have access to information, knowledge and skills on drowning prevention; 100% of schools teach knowledge and skills on drowning prevention to pupils; the number of children dying from drowning every year decreases by 10 to 20%.
