After a year of hiatus due to COVID-19, human chess contest resumed in Nha Trang City on the 2022 Tet occasion, attracting a lot of local people and tourists.

Four most excellent Chinese chess players of Khanh Hoa Province competed in two semi-final matches and final match of the 2022 Tet human chess contest organized by the provincial Center of Culture and Cinema, namely Luu Minh Hiep, Huynh Khoa Thuat, Than Duc Cong, and Le Huu Phuoc.

Human chess contests held on Tet occasion or in the significant cultural events of the province have become a familiar activity to many people in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa. Each time the contest is organized, there are often a lot of locals coming to watch and cheer for the players as well as human chess pieces. People who love Chinese chess come to watch and learn chess moves through the commentaries given by excellent chess players. Other people who don’t know to play chess and children are often interested in the exciting martial art performances performed by the human chess pieces when they capture the other pieces. The human chess pieces are the traditional martial art practitioners of Bich Quang Mon Dojo of Khanh Hoa Children’s House.

The human chess pieces dressed in colorful outfit performing exciting martial art and the animated atmosphere full of drum sounds also often bring tourists visiting Nha Trang on Tet a sense of anticipation and excitement.

Nguyen Van Viet, deputy director of the provincial Center of Culture and Cinema, highly appreciated the quality of the matches of the 2022 Tet human chess contest. The four players at this year’s contest used to win high prizes at the Chinese chess tournaments and human chess tournaments in the province. Luu Minh Hiep, who won four provincial human chess contests, continued to prove his skills with the 2022 championship. The runner-up, Huynh Khoa Thuat, was a surprise at the Tet human chess contests in two recent years. He has joined human chess contests for many years, but he had never reached the top four places. However, last year, he won the championship (the contest was organized as a normal Chinese chess contest due to COVID-19). This year, he defeated Le Huu Phuoc, who claimed the 2019 championship, and Than Duc Cong to finished second.

At the end of the contest, the organization board offered certificates of merit to six individuals, collectives, and the aforementioned four players, who helped to preserve the unique cultural beauty of Khanh Hoa during the 2022 Tet holidays.
