Khanh Hoa may need its own seven-a-side football tournaments

Thanh Thanh FC and Nam Phuong Khanh Hoa were the two representatives of Khanh Hoa Province’s movement football at the National Seven-a-side Tournament (VSC-S1), which ended last week. Despite their good investment and preparation, the two teams couldn’t go further in the tournament.

Khanh Hoa has a strong football movement compared to other provinces in the central and highland regions. Football teams have been formed at district-level, town-level, and province-level. Eleven-a-side football tournaments, futsal tournaments, and five-a-side football tournaments are organized every year. Meanwhile, there haven’t had tournaments for seven-a-side football. That was one of the reasons for the failure of Thanh Thanh FC and Nam Phuong Khanh Hoa at VSC-S1 although they were the hosts of the tournament. They have been the two strong movement football teams in Khanh Hoa, which have achieved many prizes and championships at the local club-level and province-level eleven-a-side tournaments. However, they were inferior to strong teams at VSC-S1.

Prior to VSC-S1, Nam Phuong Khanh Hoa showed their determination as they recruited quality players of the provincial futsal team and excellent players of the province’s movement football. The team was drawn in Group A with Hiep Hoa Group, Zetbit Saigon, and Anh Phap. Khanh Hoa football supporters had hoped that Nam Phuong Khanh Hoa could display good performances in this group. However, they were eliminated in the group stage after two draws and one loss, placing at the bottom of the group. Their players, who had good skills, couldn’t play with good connection because they had not had enough opportunities to practice and play with each other. Besides, most of the excellent players of Nam Phuong Khanh Hoa were excellent in eleven-a-side or futsal tournaments.

Thanh Thanh FC passed the group stage and got through the semi-final round, where they lost 0-1 to Anh Phap in the quarter-final match. Thanh Thanh FC have had more experience than Nam Phuong Khanh Hoa in seven-a-side tournaments. They used to represent the central-highland region in the national stage VPL-S held in Hanoi and finished second. However, as they played in the nation-level tournament and competed with the teams which had more experience than them in this type of football from the northern region (HPL-S) and southern region (SPL-S), Thanh Thanh FC couldn’t play well and got the results they wanted. This was due to the fact that Khanh Hoa hasn’t had any seven-a-side football playground for their players to practice and play to earn experience. Besides, Thanh Thanh FC coaches have also not had experience in creating appropriate tactics for their team in large-scale seven-a-side football tournament.

In two recent years, Vietnam Football Joint Stock Company has coordinated with Vietnam Football Federation to enlarge seven-a-side football movement over the country with the aim to develop it into a professional playground of the national sports system. Nha Trang was selected to be the host of two seven-a-side tournaments namely KPL-S1 in 2019 and VSC-S1 in 2021. Perhaps Khanh Hoa’s sports sector should build up its own seven-as-side playground in order to create conditions for Khanh Hoa players to earn more experience of competing and brace themselves for national tournaments.
