Last year, the province organized 11 out of 21 originally planned movement sports tournaments and 9 out of 15 contests of the 9th provincial Sports Festival. Although the numbers of people doing sports regularly and sport families didn’t meet the target due to the postponement of sports activities during the pandemic, units and localities tried to hold tournaments and send athletes to the province’s movement activities in accordance with safe measures. The province’s sports sector rewarded 49 communes, wards, and towns with title “Province-level good sports units”.

In the field of high-achievement sports, Khanh Hoa’s sports teams tried to take part in 39 national tournaments and won 29 gold medals, 29 silver medals, and 51 bronze medals. 38 Khanh Hoa athletes were recognized as masters; 34 athletes reached level 1. Khanh Hoa athletes won many prizes at national tournaments. For example, athlete Tran Nhat Hoang won a gold medal in men’s 400m at the national athletics championship; two Khanh Hoa athletes won two gold medals at the national bodybuilding tournament; 5 athletes obtained gold medals at the national traditional martial art tournament; athlete Bui Thi Huong got muay Thai gold medal in women’s 45kg, 15-17 age category, at the national muay Thai championship; Khanh Hoa’ beach volleyball team won gold medals in both men’s and women’s events at the national 4x4 beach volleyball tournament, etc. Some Khanh Hoa athletes and coaches of taekwondo, beach volleyball, athletics, traditional martial art, and bodybuilding have been called up to the national sports teams to prepare for SEA Games 31 held in 2022.

The aforementioned achievements were thanks to the support and investment of the authorities, businesses, and patrons in facilities, equipment, and monetary policy for the coaches and athletes. Especially, in 2021, the provincial People’s Council approved Resolution 21 (taking into effect from 2022) increasing money for meals of high-achievement sports by 1.5 to 2 times. This will be a source of motivation helping the province’s coaches and athletes to focus on practicing and competing to secure medals.

In a recent meeting with the province’s typical coaches and athletes, Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, directed the provincial Department of Culture and Sports to cooperate with the localities to well implement the campaign “All people do exercise following Uncle Ho’s example”; look for and train sports talent; make plan to invest in facilities and equipment, especially the ones for strong sports of the province; offer support to the coaches and athletes who practice for SEA Games 31; and so on.
