The round second matches have taken place while COVID-19 is still progressing complicatedly, forcing some changes in the format and regulations. For example, the second and final rounds are organized at one place (Ninh Binh Province) in stead of two places like the previous years; the matches are played behind close doors and are live broadcast on On Sports channel of VTV. There are no final round and ranking round like the previous years. Instead, the teams in Group C and D play the second round to decide four excellent teams for the semi-finals. The two winning teams from the semi-finals will play the final match. Specifically, there will be no relegated team in this year’s tournament.
In the second round, defending champions Sanest Khanh Hoa are in Goup D with Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Border, and Ben Tre. This is assessed to be a light group for Sanest Khanh Hoa. In the first round match, Sanest Khanh Hoa dominated Hanoi in a 3-0 win. In that match, Coach Thai Quang Lai didn’t field outside hitter Tu Thanh Thuan, the current best volleyball player of Vietnam. In the next match, Sanest Khanh Hoa met Ha Tinh. They had to play relatively harder to win Ha Tinh 3-2. With these two wins, Sanest Khanh Hoa have had six consecutive wins since the first round and are definitely qualified for the semi-final round.
In Group C, The Cong and Trang An Ninh Binh are competing for the first and second positions. The hosts Trang An Ninh Binh are among the favorites for the championship with two consecutive wins against Binh Duong Building Materials (3-0) and The Cong (3-2) in the second round. It is likely that Sanest Khanh Hoa will play against with The Cong in the semi-finals, expected to take place on December 23.
