The first two matches of Group D of Futsal FIFA World Cup Lithuania 2020 (taking place on September 13 evening and September 14 early morning) ended without surprising results, won by two highly rated teams, Brazil and the Czech Republic.

As expected, Vietnam national futsal team, despite playing with great determination, still lost by a large margin of 1-9 to Brazil, who have been the second-ranked team on FIFA Futsal World ranking and have won this tournament five times. The level difference between the two sides was clear. Brazilian players played comfortably and could find way to the goal of Vietnam easily although Vietnamese defenders strove to stop the attacks from Brazil. It can be said that Vietnam lost in a one-side match. However, Vietnamese players could learn and gain some experience from the match to prepare for the upcoming matches.

One of the causes for the loss of Vietnam to Brazil was mistakes. Three out of nine conceded goals came from individual mistakes. Even goalkeeper Ho Van Y, who used to win golden futsal ball, made a careless mistake, which was converted into a goal for Brazil. The only goal of Vietnam was scored by Khong Dinh Hung from a free kick. Reportedly, coach Pham Minh Giang had prepared his team carefully for free kicks. Vietnam are considered a weak team not only in Group D but also in the tournament. Therefore, free kicks are good opportunities for the team to score goals.

The match between the Czech Republic and Panama played some hours earlier than Vietnam -Brazil match was won by the Czech Republic with a score of 5-1. Throughout the match, Panama showed that they had good techniques and a strong physical fitness. However, they lacked connection among players and ability to score. That might be the reasons why the Czech Republic, who were not really superior to Panama, with experience and reasonable tactics, could score five goals into Panama’s net.

After the first two matches, in Group D, Brazil and the Czech Republic currently have three points, temporarily holding the top two positions on the table. Panama and Vietnam are placing third and fourth respectively with no point. The next matches will be played on September 16, between Brazil and the Czech Republic (8pm), Vietnam and Panama (10pm). These matches will be broadcast live on VTV5, VTV6, VTV9, and VTV Go.

If Vietnam win Panama, and Brazil draw with the Czech Republic, Vietnam can keep alive their hopes of advancing to FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 last 16.
