Reportedly, Vietnam’s national futsal team has moved from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi to attend the last training camp before travelling to Spain on August 25 for another training camp. As said by Pham Minh Giang, head coach of Vietnam’s national futsal team, during the first training camp in Ho Chi Minh City (from July 20 to August 12), the coach board was quite satisfied with the training plan as well as the spirit and concentration on practicing of the players. In the training camp in Hanoi running from August 13 to 25, the team continue to perfect some drills and strategies. The list of players will be reduced from 22 players to 17 players before the team leave for Spain to participate in a tournament (expected to take place from August 28 to 31) with strong teams namely Spain, Japan, Guatemala.

Since playing two play-offs to secure the ticket to the final round of FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021, Vietnam’s national futsal team have almost had no opportunities to take part in any tournaments. As the original plan, before the training camps, the called-up players would play for their clubs in the second round of the national championship. However, the tournament couldn’t take place as planned in July and was pushed back due to the outbreak of COVID-19. This has affected the evaluation of players’ skills of the coach board. In this last training camp, the team continue to practice without any matches in order to ensure safety in conformity with COVID-19 regulations. Therefore, the tournament in Spain will be an opportunity for Vietnam to try their strategies and perfect them.

Pham Minh Giang is still quite confident about the possibility that Vietnam can get through to the round of 16 of the upcoming FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021. Right after the draw, the coach board of Vietnam’ national futsal team collected information and analyzed the competence and skills of their opponent teams. Vietnam are on a par with Panama; therefore, the team will focus their strength on the match with Panama to compete for a spot to the next round. Besides, with the target towards a place among four best third-placed teams, Vietnam will also strive to have good results in the matches with Brazil and the Czech Republic. Although the three opponent teams in Group D are strong and tough ones, Vietnam can get through the round of 16 if they prepare well and can show their ability and skills.

Vietnam will play Brazil on September 13, Panama on September 16, and the Czech Republic on September 19.
