According to the regulations of the organization committee of VBA 2021, before boarding the plane to Nha Trang, all eight participating teams are requested to wear protective clothing, and perform the Ministry of Health’s “5K” guidelines (facemask, disinfection, distance, no gathering, and health declaration). All the teams are isolated for 14 days at their accommodations and will be tested for COVID-19 three times. This is a special regulation by VBA in association with Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health to ensure safety for all teams and other participants prior to the competition.

The VBA executive board has also issued a set of safety regulations on pandemic prevention. All members are divided into three groups, in which groups 1 and 2 include the athletes, coaches, management board, referees, etc.; the rest are in group 3. The groups are also requested to avoid gathering with each other and not go out of the accommodation. Besides group supervision, other regulations on health care, travelling, usage of dining rooms and gyms, contact, etc. are all instructed and handled strictly. Until June 22, all members of the teams were first RT-PCR tested under the supervision of the Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control and all were negative for SARS-CoV-2.
VBA 5x5 2021 is a professional basketball league which is different from the previous national basketball tournaments Khanh Hoa has hosted so far. Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, said, "The VBA teams are very professional with foreign athletes and coaches. The tournament taking place in Nha Trang will help local people and basketball fans have an opportunity to see basketball competitions of high quality. The matches will be played behind closed doors but will be broadcast live on some channels. This will be a chance to promote Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa to people over the country.
Previously, the activities and matches of the National Basketball Championship 2021 taking place in Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa in April were broadcast live on television and the fanpage of Vietnam Basketball Federation. They were liked and shared and receive a lot of comments from basketball fans.
The VBA 5x5 Professional Basketball League 2021 will be held at Multifunctional Sport Hall of Nha Trang University from July 10 to September 20 without spectators. Eight teams competing in the league include Vietnam National Team, Nha Trang Dolphins Club (Khanh Hoa Province), Hanoi Buffaloes Club (Hanoi), Thang Long Warriors Club (Hanoi), Danang Dragons Club (Da Nang City), Saigon Heat Club (Ho Chi Minh City), Ho Chi Minh City Wings Club (Ho Chi Minh City) and Cantho Catfish Club (Can Tho City). The league will be broadcast live on Sports TV, Sports News HD, HTV Sports and posted on Youtube VBA channel.
