Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has recently announced the resumption of Vietnam non-professional football tournaments. Accordingly, from July 15, the tournaments can kick off in case COVID-19 situations are controlled and safe in the localities where the competitions take place.

According to the plan announced by VFF, the second leg of the HDBank National Futsal Championship 2021 is expected to kick off on July 15 and run until July 30 in Can Tho City. This schedule is expected to help the athletes of the national futsal team to practice and regain their form before focusing on preparing for the training session in Spain (on August).  Vietnam national futsal team will travel to Lithuania to compete in the final round of FIFA Futsal World Cup Lithuania 2021 in September.

Following the aforementioned futsal tournament is the final match and the third-place match of the National Women’s Football Cup on July 19. These two matches have been suspended since April. The National Women’s Football Championship will have its first leg taking place on July 23 to August 25.
As for men’s tournaments, the National Football Second League first leg is from July 20 to August 14, return leg from August 25 to September 24; final round will kick off on October 1. The final round of the National Football Third League is expected to take place between October 8 and 10. The junior tournaments such as U-15 and U-17 will see their preliminary rounds running from July 19 to September 15, final round from Augusts 18 to October 3. As for the National U-21 Championship, it was planned to kick off in October after the professional tournaments (V-League, National Cup, National First League) finish.

However, these schedules depend on the evolution and situation of COVID-19 pandemic, especially at the localities hosting the tournaments. In case the situations are still complicated, VFF will re-arrange or even suggest appropriate solutions because of the limited amount of time.

Since Lunar New Year until now, most physical exercise and sports activities, domestic professional and movement football tournaments have been suspended. This has affected the training and practicing of the national football teams in international tournaments. An advantage of non-professional tournaments is that most of the competitions don’t apply first leg and return leg as professional tournaments. Therefore, the teams don’t need to travel much from this place to other places. VFF can apply the way of organization that Vietnam Basketball Association are using for VBA 5x5 Professional Basketball League 2021 taking place in Nha Trang City in July. Specifically, prior to the league, the participating teams are isolated; strictly follow COVID-19 prevention and control regulations; and perform “5K” guidelines (facemask, disinfection, distance, no gathering, and health declaration).

The VBA matches will also be played behind closed doors and will be broadcast on TV channels and the tournament’s fanpage. If VBA 5x5 Professional Basketball League 2021 can go smoothly, it can be a model for the non-professional football tournaments to resume in July.
