Diversifying the types and activities of public physical exercise and sports, encouraging people to practice sports, boosting public contributions to sports facilities in order to improve the quality of movement sports, etc. are the orientations of Khanh Hoa Province for public movement sports by 2025.

Strong but uneven development

Khanh Hoa Province now has nearly 30 movement sports with more than 650 sports clubs and sports practice places and 15 sports federations and associations. Every year, the province holds 24 sports tournaments at provincial level, more than 160 tournaments at district and commune levels.

Up to now, the province has attracted 11 public sports investment projects with a total capital of more than VND230 billion. Some of them are Phuoc Dong Physical Exercise and Sports Center of Dai Khanh Trading Service Construction Co., Ltd.; Ngoc Hiep Physical Exercise and Sports Center (Nha Trang City); Trieu Khang Physical Exercise and Sports Complex (Cam Nghia Ward, Cam Ranh City); and Van Ninh Swimming, Sports and Entertainment Club of Quoc Bao Van Ninh Co., Ltd.

Khanh Hoa’s sports movement, in comparison with the national average, has developed strongly but unevenly, according to Nguyen Tuan Thanh, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports. Besides the achievements, the province’s sports movement has faced many problems. For example, the public sports movement has developed mainly in the central areas of localities. Many localities lack of sports facilities. Many schools in the province don’t have enough land for sports facilities and sports clubs. The funds allocated for local sports activities are low and cannot meet the demand for building and developing movement sports. Some sports federations and associations are not active enough in promoting sports movement.

Many development goals until 2025

Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee recently issued a sports development plan until 2025 in order to solve the aforementioned problems and help the province’s sports movement to develop more strongly. Accordingly, the responsibilities of the authorities and localities in managing and organizing sports activities will be heightened. The province will also diversify the types and activities of public physical exercise and sports to meet the needs of people at all levels; encourage people to practice physical exercise and sports and form a habit of regular exercise to improve health; promote the development of sports movement among residents including officials, workers, soldiers, the elderly, and disabled people, etc. Additionally, the province will increase investment and upgrade the sports facilities for localities and create favorable conditions for organizations and individuals to involve actively in public contribution activities.

In recent years, besides sports activities funded by the State budget, sports tournaments sponsored by individuals and organizations have created many quality playgrounds for movement sports. Seven-a-side football tournament sponsored by Vietfootball; five-a-side football tournament of tourism and real estate associations; tennis Nha Trang open tournaments; badminton and basketball tournaments held by clubs and schools, and so on contributed to create an exciting atmosphere for Khanh Hoa’s sports movement and helped to promote the movement in the sports clubs and localities over the province.

According to the development plan for public physical exercise and sports of Khanh Hoa, by 2025, the province will have had 36% or more of people practicing physical exercise and sports regularly, 36.7% of sports households, and 850 physical exercise and sports clubs. Additionally, all districts, towns and cities will have had three basic sports facilities—stadiums, swimming pools, and sports halls. At least 50% of the communes, wards and towns of each locality will have had outdoor sports places. 20 to 25 province-level sports tournaments and three to five commune-, unit- and school-level sports tournaments will be held every year.
