Ho Chi Minh City has always been a tough opponent to any teams at domestic volleyball tournaments. They qualified for the final match of the national volleyball championship in three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020, and won the title in 2019 and 2020. Before the 2020 final, Sanest Khanh Hoa conceded defeats to Ho Chi Minh City in the finals of the 2015 and 2019 national volleyball championships. Sanest Khanh Hoa proved that they had learned from those defeats to tackle the play of Ho Chi Minh City in this year’s championship.

Thousands of spectators filled the stands of Khanh Hoa Province’s sports arena to see the final competition between Sanest Khanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City. Both sides started the match with high determination. However, it seemed that the psychological support of the home fans invigorated the host Sanest Khanh Hoa. Some outstanding players of Sanest Khanh Hoa such as Tu Thanh Thuan, Ngo Van Kieu, Pham Thai Hung, Van Tien, etc. not only did well in attacking but also in defending the opposing team’s hits.

Outside hitter Nguyen Van Hanh of Ho Chi Minh City performed really well in the match against Trang An Ninh Binh some days ago. Van Hanh’s excellent performance contributed much in the win of Ho Chi Minh City in that match. However, this player could not have any chance to perform his skills in the final clash with Sanest Khanh Hoa. Coach Thai Quang Lai of Sanest Khanh Hoa had prepared well for the final and used three players to closely mark Van Hanh. Ho Chi Minh City, who couldn’t rely on the excellence of Van Hanh, seemed to lose 70% of their strength.

Meanwhile, Sanest Khanh Hoa played energetically and effectively. They won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20. Ho Chi Minh changed their tactic and play and won 25-21 in the third set. Sanest Khanh Hoa played with higher concentration in the fourth set and finished it at 25-18, winning the final match 3-1 on aggregation. This is the second time Sanest Khanh Hoa has won the national volleyball championship as the hosts. On the same match day, Trang An Ninh Binh defeated Border 3-1 in the match for third place.
