The PV GAS National Volleyball Championship 2020 will return with the second and final rounds taking place from December 9 to 20. Khanh Hoa Province and Dak Lak Province are the two hosts of these rounds, which will be played by ten male and ten female teams.

Volleyball fans across Vietnam are awaiting the competitions among strong volleyball teams of Vietnam when the PV GAS National Volleyball Championship 2020 returns after a hiatus of more than five months due to COVID-19 pandemic. Khanh Hoa will be the venue for the matches of the second round (Group D, both male and female events) and final round (male event); Dak Lak will be the place for the competitions of Group C of the second round and final round (female event).

The competitions of Group D, which includes many strong teams of both men and women’s events, are expected to be very dramatic and exciting. Group D men’s event has five teams namely Sanest Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Tinh, Vinh Long Lottery, and Long An; women’s event comprises Duc Giang Hanoi Chemical, Kinh Bac Bac Ninh, VTV Binh Dien Long An, Vinh Long Television, and Hai Tien Thanh Hoa. Reportedly, most of the female teams of Group D had carefully practiced and reinforced their strength to prepare for this year’s championship. Consequently, the quality gap among them has narrowed. Therefore, it is difficult to predict the first and second places in women’s event of this group.

Currently, Duc Giang Hanoi Chemical and Kinh Bac Bac Ninh have a relatively good advantage to win qualification for the final round. After the first round, Duc Giang Hanoi Chemical has four wins; Kinh Bac Bac Ninh has three wins and one loss. Meanwhile, VTV Binh Dien Long An, who used to win four national championships, won two matches and conceded two losses. The competition from Vinh Long Television and Hai Tien Thanh Hoa has added more excitement to the matches in Group D.

Group D men’s event will see the competition between Sanest Khanh Hoa and Ho Chi Minh City, the most excellent male volleyball teams in Vietnam at present. Ho Chi Minh City is the defending champion and has been the first volleyball team in the country winning the national championship in two consecutive years. Sanest Khanh Hoa is the runner-up of the tournament and has been the only team achieving all the national volleyball championships, from Hung Vuong Cup to the National Sports Festival. Besides, the team of Khanh Hoa also won prizes in some international and regional tournaments.

In order to prepare for this year’s tournament, Sanest Khanh Hoa recruited middle blocker Pham Thai Hung, who is 1.98m in height and was an excellent middle blocker contributing to the championship of Ho Chi Minh City last year. At present, with competent players namely Thanh Thuan, Thai Hung, Van Tien, Trieu Chieu, and Van Phong, Sanest Khanh Hoa’s attacking line-up is considered as one of the best ones of Vietnam’s volleyball. Hopefully, this year, they can lift the trophy with this line-up.
