Round 11 of the 2020 Vietnamese National Football First League (LS V-League 2) witnessed unexpected results. Pho Hien lost points to Binh Dinh; Hue lost opportunity to join the competition for promotion after losing to Binh Phuoc.

Round 11 of the 2020 Vietnamese National Football First League (LS V-League 2) witnessed unexpected results. Pho Hien lost points to Binh Dinh; Hue lost opportunity to join the competition for promotion after losing to Binh Phuoc. Thus, LS V-League 2’s group A including six teams who will compete for promotion spot to V-League 1 next years were confirmed with a short margin of points separating the teams. Stage 2 of LS V-League 2 promises to be dramatic and attractive.

Binh Phuoc was the last name in the list of the six upper half teams. Binh Phuoc, who was at seventh before round 11, had a narrow 1-0 win against sixth-placed Hue, who had been tied with fifth-placed An Giang on points but lower on goal difference. This was a surprising result when Hue had been showing their impressive form and only needed a draw to enter the top six. However, the goal of Le Quyen Huy Tin of Binh Phuoc at the 84th minute ended Hue’s hope of promotion. The win moved Binh Phuoc to fifth with 17 points and wrote their name in the list of group A teams after 11 rounds of stage 1.

Also in round 11, Binh Dinh made a surprise with a 1-0 win against Pho Hien right at Pho Hien’s home ground. Before the match with Binh Dinh, Pho Hien was the only unbeaten team in stage 1 and was a heavy opponent of Ba Ria-Vung Tau (BR-VT) in the competition for the 2020 LS V-League 2 championship. Meanwhile, Binh Dinh just had an unimpressive draw at their home with Sanna Khanh Hoa – Bien Vietnam (S.KH-BVN) in round 10. However, the appropriate counterattack tactic of Binh Dinh caused Pho Hien difficulties and even a drop to fourth place.

S.KH-BVN, who have been experiencing a lot of difficulties relating to financial problems and key players’ leaves, had an easy 3-0 win against Dong Thap. That was a match between a third-placed team with many players who used to play in V-League 1 and a team just above the bottom in the table. Dong Thap had set their main target in stage 2, which is avoiding relegation. Therefore, they only brought their U21 players to 19-8 Nha Trang Stadium. In the meanwhile, the hosts played confidently with dominance most of the match. With three goals scored by Tan Dien, Van Tung, and Thanh Nhan, S.KH-BVN won the match and are now up to second in the table.

Ba Ria-Vung Tau (BR-VT) won their away match against Dak Lak at Buon Ma Thuot Stadium, remaining at top with 24 points. The positions of second-placed S.KH-BVN, third-placed Binh Dinh and fourth-placed Pho Hien, who are currently level on 20 points, are being decided only by goal difference. Therefore, it promises a fierce competition among them in stage 2.

Reportedly, group A will play a round robin format; the final points will be accumulated throughout two stages. Recently, Vietnam Professional Football announced the list of fixtures for both group A and Group B (including teams who will fight to not be relegated) of stage 2 of the 2020 LS V-League 2. Accordingly, S.KH-BVN will play three matches at home against Pho Hien (5pm, October 8), An Giang (5pm, October 13), and Binh Dinh (5pm, October 24); and two away matches with Binh Phuoc (5pm, October 18) and (BR-VT) (4pm, October 31).
