Currently, Vietnam’s nation-level sports tournaments have been postponed or rescheduled; however, Khanh Hoa Province's sports teams are still maintaining their practice while keeping implementing COVID-19 prevention and control measures. Tran Quang Thuong, director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Technique and Training Center, recently gave an interview with Khanh Hoa News.

- After COVID-19 pandemic broke out again in Vietnam, in complying with the directive of the Prime Minister, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and the provincial sports sector issued documents on implementing the pandemic prevention and control measures in sports activities. The center's board of managers disseminated information and directed its staff, provincial sports teams’ coaches and athletes to raise their awareness and follow the recommendations of the health authorities to protect their own health and the community, such as wearing masks and washing hands.

- At the same time, the center has tightened the management of training schedules and activities, etc. of the teams. After each training session, the coaches remind the resident players to clean training facilities and their rooms, maintain social distancing and avoid going out if it’s not necessary. The kitchen staff is required to closely check the supply of food to ensure sufficient nutrients, food safety and hygiene in accordance with regulations. Any player who present any symptoms of COVID‐19, for example unusual coughing, fever, must immediately report to the center’s medical department and board of managers.

- What are the impacts of the implementation of COVID-19 prevention and control measures on the province’s sports sector?

- The center had to adjust the plans and reschedules of training and competition of the provincial sports teams at the national tournaments. This affects the targets for medals, quality of training and competition, and psychology of the athletes. As of now, Khanh Hoa’s sports sector in general and the provincial Sports Technique and Training Center in particular sent 18 sports teams to the national tournaments. These teams achieved 70 medals. The province’s professional football team, Sanna Khanh Hoa-Bien Vietnam, finished nine games of V-League 2 (Vietnamese National Football First League) and is sitting third on the table.

- At present, the provincial sports teams are still practicing and preparing their players while waiting for the national sports tournaments to return. The prolonged postponement or even cancellation of tournaments can significantly affect the recruitment plans for the provincial sports teams and preparation for the National Sports Festival 2022. However, the center has always encouraged the coaches and athletes to maintain a positive spirit to overcome difficulties.

- Thanks for your answers.
