Since the beginning of August, Khanh Hoa Province has actively and proactively implemented measures to control and contain the spreading of COVID-19 pandemic. All province-level and local sports contests have been suspended. However, public sports activities, physical activities and sports classes have still been maintained under close supervision.

Summer martial art classes at Khanh Hoa Children’s House are still open in the afternoon every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Implementing the directive of the provincial People’s Committee and provincial Department of Culture and Sports about COVID-19 control and prevention, the children’s house has carried out preventive measures throughout the establishment; persuaded parents and learners to wear face masks and to avoid gathering in group of more than 20 people. The martial art learners are requested to practice social distancing and clean their hands before attending classes. Pham Ngoc Thuong, a karate coach at Khanh Hoa Children’s House, says that the karate classes have been split into five or six groups of 10 to 15 learners and one instructor to ensure the safety for all learners and instructors.

“My daughter has attended this karate class for over one year. COVID-19 pandemic has been changing complicatedly; however, the province has been controlling the situation well. Therefore, I keep taking my child to the class. This is a way for children to take part in summer activities and stay healthy amid the pandemic,” said a parent named Thanh Hai.

The local cultural, information and sport centers in Khanh Hoa have suspended all cultural and sports activities in August, for example Olympic running day for the whole people’s health of Ninh Hoa Town Cultural, Information and Sport Center. However, physical exercise and sports good for physical well-being such as badminton, morning exercise and swimming are still permitted as long as people keep implementing the recommendations of health authorities on COVID-19 prevention and control.

One of the measures to prevent and control COVID-19 recommended by the health authorities is doing exercise and practicing sports to stay healthy. Therefore, maintaining sports classes in the summer under strict supervision on disease prevention is a way helping the localities to maintain local movement sports activities and prepare athletes for future sports activities and tournaments.
