Human chess competition, an awaited Tet activity in Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa

Bearing the traditional culture and art combined with exciting battles of wits between excellent chess players, Khanh Hoa Province's Tet 2020 human chess competition retained its attractiveness as an awaited and interesting activity of many locals and tourists in Nha Trang City during Tet holiday.

As usual, from lunar January 3 to 5, Khanh Hoa Provincial Culture-Cinema Center organized Tet human chess competition at 2-4 Square (Nha Trang). That was the 13th edition of this activity. The drumbeats and human chessmen wearing colorful costumes and weapons added more excitement to the festive atmosphere of Tet. Specially, the analysis and comments of Khanh Hoa’s excellent chess player and Dr. Tran Cam Long on the players’ moves helped the spectators to understand and learn more about the strategies used in the matches.

Over 30 chess players over the province competed in the preliminary round in order to decide the four semi-finalists for the competitions played in front of the public at 2-4 Square. The four semi-finalists of this year’s Tet human chess competition were skilled and experienced players, who have got many achievements at the chess contests held in Khanh Hoa and other localities in the country. They were Le Hung Son, Luu Minh Hiep, Than Duc Cong, and Le Huu Phuoc. After three days of competition, 30-year-old Le Huu Phuoc with his tactical and daring moves defeated senior Luu Minh Hiep in the final match to win the 2020 championship. 
 
In addition to the battles of wits between players, the drumbeat and martial art performances of the martial art practitioners of the human chess club of Khanh Hoa Culture-Cinema Center are the attractive features of the human chess competition. The martial art practitioners dressing costumes representing the chessmen move according to the players’ instructions, performing martial art movements when fighting with their “opponent”. Through the human chessmen’s performances, a part of Vietnam’s traditional martial arts are introduced to the locals and tourists from over the world.
 
With its unique cultural features, the Tet human chess competition of Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa often attracts a lot of local people, domestic and foreign tourists in the city to watch and cheer for the exciting competitions.
