D.K.Q club, the table tennis club of Doan Kien Quoc (senior table tennis of Khanh Hoa Province and head coach of Vietnam’s national table tennis team at SEA Games 30), recently organized its first table tennis open tournament. The tournament drew many strong players in Khanh Hoa and Hanoi.

Most of the sport tournaments of Khanh Hoa are organized by the province’s sports sector, localities or sports associations. The scale and quality of those sports tournaments vary depending on the development of the sport in the province or localities and on the allocated funds for that sport. Table tennis, athletics, and volleyball are the relatively less developed sports in Khanh Hoa, in comparison to football, futsal, badminton, tennis, and martial arts. Therefore, the fact that a private table tennis club holds a tournament is worth being encouraged.

Taking part in the two-day open tournament were over 30 players of seven strong table tennis clubs in Khanh Hoa (Central Veterinary Sub-institute, Kim Long Bodyguard, GAGO Team, Huynh De, Amazon, Phuong Son, D.K.Q Club) and one club from Hanoi, namely Hanoi Star Club. Hanoi’s club brought experienced and skilled players to D.K.Q club’s first open tournament. Among them were former national player Hoang Tuan Son, deputy coach of national young table tennis team Nguyen Tien Dung, and Vietnam’s current No.1 player of movement table tennis Tran Ngoc Minh. The participating of the quality players from Hanoi increased the excitement of the tournament.

The tournament ended with the championship coming to D.K.Q Club. GAGO Team came in second; Hanoi Star and Minh Long Bodyguard placed third. Organizer Doan Kien Quoc said in a statement after the tournament that, he was happily surprised at the enthusiastic response of the clubs as well as players in Khanh Hoa and Hanoi. With the success of the first tournament, he intended to organize club open tournaments at province-level in order to develop D.K.Q Club into a training center for young table tennis players in Khanh Hoa.

Reportedly, D.K.Q Club of Doan Kien Quoc was recognized as a club member of Vietnam’s Table Tennis Federation in September 2019, which means the club can take part in the domestic and international table tennis tournaments held by the federation.
