Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem won against American Grandmaster Jeffery Xiong in the tiebreak blitz game to claim the championship at World Open 2019.
 

Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem won against American Grandmaster Jeffery Xiong in the tiebreak blitz game to claim the championship at World Open 2019.
 
Earlier, Quang Liem and Jeffery Xiong had tied for first place with 7.5 points after nine matches. In the tiebreak, Quang Liem won the match thanks to bonus points for playing black as the two players drew their match after 36 points.

This was the first championship of Quang Liem at the World Open and also his third consecutive title this year. 
 
The two players received awards of USD15,000. Quang Liem was given a bonus of USD500 for his tiebreak victory. He was also invited to take part in the Grand Tour held in Romania in November 2019.
 
The World Open 2019 took place in Philadelphia (USA) on July 3-7, joined by 227 participants, 36 of them grandmasters.
