The representative of Vietnam at the AFF Futsal Cup 2019 held in Thailand, Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa, tried to overcome the group stage as their target. Finally, their achievement exceeded the expectations, finishing the tournament at second position.

Vietnam’s representative met Choburi Bluewave of Thailand in the final match. Choburi Bluewave, the opponent of Vietnam in the group stage, was regarded as the strongest team at this year’s tournament. Last year, Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa was eliminated in the group stage. In this year’s edition, the team was divided into the same group with two strong teams, which were Choburi Bluewave and Black Steel MK (Indonesia).

In the first clash with Black Steel MK, Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa started carefully because they lost to this team in an earlier friendly match. The appropriate tactic and formation as well as the joining of some new quality players, Vietnam’s team defeated Indonesia’s team 5-1. Although could not overcome and lost 2-8 to Choburi Bluwave in the next match, Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa still qualified for the semifinals.

The opponent of Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa in the semifinal match was Imperial University FC from Myanmar, which won all two group-stage matches. Imperial University FC caused many difficulties for the defense of Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa. Thanks to a high concentration and taking advantage of the mistake of Burmese players, Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa overwhelmed Imperial University FC 6-0. Playing against too strong Choburi Bluewave against in the final, the team of coach Praiset Innui was smashed 1-9.

Reportedly, this was the first participation of Choburi Bluewave at an AFF futsal cup. However, the team has been highly appraised not only in Thailand but also in the continent. They won eight Thailand futsal championships, two AFC futsal club championships (2013, 2017). Whereas, in the domestic futsal tournaments, Sanvinest Sanatech Khanh Hoa just started to be an outstanding team some years ago, and their achievements has been relatively modest.
