Khanh Hoa Province has been the host of many national table-tennis tournaments such as the tournaments for teenagers and children, tournaments for young players, and tournaments for teams. However, this is the first time the coastal province has hosted a tournament whose scale and professional quality are highly appreciated like the National Table-tennis Championship – Nhan Dan Newspaper 2019.

The National Table-tennis Championship – Nhan Dan Newspaper 2019 kicked off at Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Hall on May 20. Reportedly, prior to the championship, the organization committee had held many meaningful social activities, for example exchanging and giving presents to the soldiers of Submarine Regiment 196; offering incense at the monument dedicated to Gac Ma soldiers, etc.

The national championship is not only the competition where all the good players over country converge but also the good opportunity for the young promising players to display their skills. After the championship, the organizers will assess the competence of the players and recruit new member of the national table-tennis team to prepare for SEA Games 30 held in Philippines. That is also a factor contributing to the quality of the tournament.

The 2019 championship is played by 148 male and female players of 16 teams from the localities and units over the country. The players compete in seven events. Khanh Hoa is in Group C with Hai Duong, Lam Dong and Hanoi T&T. The team competitions between Khanh Hoa’s players and Hai Duong’s players were the most exciting ones of the qualifying round. Specifically, Khanh Hoa player Doan Kien Quoc, who used to be the number 1 table-tennis player of Vietnam, met young player Nguyen Xuan Dieu of Hai Duong. The youthful vigor helped Xuan Dieu to overcome the experience of Kien Quoc. Khanh Hoa players won all three following matches, giving the team a 3-1 victory on aggregate.

At present, Khanh Hoa’s male team has two wins over Lam Dong and Hai Duong and clinches a spot in the next round.
