Vietnam reach quarter finals of AFC Asian Cup 2019

The save of goalkeeper Dang Van Lam and decisive goal of midfielder Bui Tien Dung in the penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw after extra time with Jordan on January 20 sent Vietnam to the quarter finals of the AFC Asian Cup 2019.

Jordan took the lead in 39 minutes with an indirect free kick from Abdel-Rahman. Six minutes after the break, Nguyen Trong Hoang supplied an inviting cross into the box and Nguyen Cong Phuong flicked the ball into the net.

Vietnam poured forward in search of a winner, but no more goal was scored in the rest time of the second half, sending the match to extra-time which still ended in that 1-1 deadlock.
