Vietnam lose to Iraq in first match at Asian Cup 2019

Vietnam suffered a heartbreaking 2-3 defeat to Iraq in their first match at the 2019 Asian Cup on January 9.  
 
The first goal of the match belonged to Vietnam as Ali Faez Atiyah of Iraq inadvertently scored an own goal at 24 minutes.

Iraq rallied to find the leveler, and they succeeded at the 35th minute when Kadhim latched on to Duy Manh’s lapse of concentration to put the ball at the back of the net.
 
Three minutes before halftime, Cong Phuong netted the rebound after Trong Hoang’s shot had been saved by Iraq goalkeeper.

After the break, Iraq pushed forward looking for an equalizer. The chaos in front of the goal of goalkeeper Van Lam allowed substitute Humam Tareq to score Iraq’s second goal.
 
Iraq claimed the victory when Ali Adnan scored a free kick into the top corner of the net before the final whistle.
