After many years lacking of players, Khanh Hoa’s track and field is showing some signs of revival with the encouraging results of young players at some national and international tournaments. Some of these young athletics players are expected to bring medals to Khanh Hoa sports delegation at the upcoming National Sports Festival.

As said by Hoang Thi Huyen Nga, Head of track and field section of Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Technology Training Center, besides long-distance athlete Nguyen Thi Y Tien, most of the members of Khanh Hoa provincial track and field team now are the young players who were born from 2000 to 2002.

Most of the seven national and international tournaments which Khanh Hoa’s track and field players have taken part in since the beginning of this year are the junior tournaments. Khanh Hoa’s track and field players won more than 50 medals. Specifically, at the Speed Athletics Tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa achieved 11 golds, 11 silvers, and seven bronzes, placing third out of 21 teams. Khanh Hoa athletes also earned four medals at the 59th Tien Phong Newspaper Cross-country and Athletics Tournament and six medals at the National Athletics Junior Tournament.

The most outstanding achievement of Khanh Hoa’s athletics in 2018 so far has been the gold medal and silver medal of two young players Phan Vo Nhu Y (born in 2002) and Tran Nhat Hoang (born in 2000) at the 2018 ASEAN School Games in Malaysia in July. This result was even impressive because Nhat Hoang and Nhu Y won medals in the short-distance event, men’s 400m and women’s 4x400m, which has not been invested by Khanh Hoa sports for a long time.

Since the SEA Games gold medal of Pham Dinh Khanh Doan over ten years ago, Khanh Hoa’s track and filed has not gained any remarkable achievement at the large-scale tournaments. The provincial team even got a low position in the domestic medal standings for a long period of time due to lack of athletes. Therefore, the two medals of the young players at the 2018 ASEAN School Games have been considered as a positive sign for Khanh Hoa’s sports in general and Khanh Hoa’s track and field in particular.

Reportedly, the athletics team of Khanh Hoa sets target to win medals in women’s 400m hurdles, men’s 400m, and men’s and women’s 4x400m at the Eighth National Sports Festival held in December.
