The Green Environment Contest 2022 themed “Water is life” has attracted meaningful and practical ideas and projects on joint effort to protect water resources and environment. 5 high-prize winning teams are provided funding support to turn their ideas into action.

The Green Environment Contest 2022 was organized by Nha Trang University in partnership with the Departments of Education & Training of the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan and Dak Lak. The online round began in April, attracting nearly 1,200 students of 226 teams from 70 high schools in 4 provinces. 18 excellent teams were chosen to advance to the final round scheduled to take place from July to early August. The teams were asked to design posters and draw environmental pictures themed protection of water resources, coastal environment and biological environment on team T-shirts; and make plans to protect the environment via specific projects.

The team with 5 girls from Truong Chinh High School, Ninh Thuan Province suggested a solution to partly solve the problem that some residents use untreated water from streams and rivers as regular drinking water. In August, members will conduct a survey in rivers and streams in their surroundings and apply knowledge they have learnt to instruct residents to filter water before use. Then, the group members will join clean-up at rivers; repaint 2 bridges and draw environmental paintings on mini public trash cans. In September, the group will organize many activities to raise environmental awareness at school flag meetings, extra-curricular activities, on broadcasts and school Facebook. The tasks have been specifically assigned to members. The project won the excellent prize at the Green Environment 2022.

The second prize went to the project "The youth joins hands to protect clean water sources from small actions every day" by a team from Nguyen Chi Thanh High School (Ninh Hoa Town). The environmental actions include cooperating with the school Youth Union to organize exchanges and extracurricular activities themed "Protecting clean water sources"; picking up plastic waste at school and along Dinh River from Ninh Xuan Commune to the estuary in Ninh Phu Commune; making innovation to the artificial ecological lake in the campus and so on.

The team from Le Trung Kien High School, Phu Yen Province made a plan to propagandize environmental protection via forums, exchanges, picnics, banners, posters, leaflets and social media. The team will design classification trash cans placed on the beach; cooperate with the Youth Union of the school and the ward; and the Green School Club to launch clean-up operations along the beach.

The team from N’Trang Long Boarding Ethnic Minority High School, Dak Lak Province came up with the idea of building reading stops with items recycled to make containers for books and materials for propaganda; cooperating with the School Youth Union to organize a handmade day to make handmade items to raise funds for the reading stops and promote environmental propaganda.

Especially, the group will cooperate with the Youth Unions of the school and its twin village to hold a forest cultivation day with the target of 1ha of trees planted in Pan A Village, Krong Pak District. The team from Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak had an idea of organizing a painting and story telling competition and online environmental games that test knowledge of environmental and sustainability issues; guiding residents to install water filter systems using simple low-cost materials.

Dinh Quang Tri, a member of the team said, “With our actions, we hope to raise students and residents’ awareness of protection of water resources and promote the project products for daily use.” The projects were awarded the third prizes."

According to PhD. Quach Hoai Nam, Vice-Director of Nha Trang University, the jury appreciated creative and practical projects. Some were of high feasibility.
