In recent years, Nha Trang University has made progress in scientific and technological research, business start-up and innovations, contributing to local socio-economic growth in Khanh Hoa Province.
 
17 research projects at provincial level
 
According to the leader of Nha Trang University, Nha Trang University has proactively proposed research programs and projects suitable for local realities; coordinate with institutes, universities, science and technology research centers located in the province to improve the quality of research projects ordered by the province. In addition, the university has directed its faculties and centers to coordinate with agencies and businesses in the province to implement local scientific and technological tasks; give priority to lecturers with doctoral degrees (especially trained abroad) to participate in proposing scientific and technological tasks, solutions to urgent issues in the province and coastal localities.

Since 2015, the university has implemented 17 research projects at provincial level such as the model of artificial seedling production and commercial farming of yellow fin fish, cobia and snapper; wastewater treatment equipment for Long Phu Nha Trang Ecotourism Joint Stock Company; a floating restaurant for Hieu Quan Nha Trang Co., Ltd; and SB-class high-speed train for Ngoc Long Nha Trang Tourism and Trading Co., Ltd. In addition, the university together with its faculties and institutes has cooperated with enterprises in scientific and technological research and transfer such as Asia Joint Stock Company; Vietnam and Australia Seafood Corporation; Vietnam Food Joint Stock Company, Long Sinh Company, Ltd., Hai Tien Company, Ltd. and Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding Company. The university has also maintained connection with scientists from Japan, the U.S.A, Canada, Southeast Asian countries, etc. There have been some typical projects in cooperation with Japan and the Asean Ivo Foundation on the application of AI (artificial intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things) in aquaculture and food safety.
 
Boosting business start-up and innovation 
 
Business start-up and innovation activities at the university have much expanded. The university has organized several conferences and events such as Startup Day, Startup Workshop and Recruitment Day with companies, namely Intel Vietnam and Sutrix Solutions.
 
Nha Trang University has maintained and expanded cooperation with domestic and foreign businesses. The university has been in close contact with more than 250 businesses recruiting students. In particular, in 2021, the university focused on supporting students to work abroad. The club to support students in scientific research, business start-up and overseas study has proved successful in research and production such as breeding production and commercial farming of some aquatic species; organic agricultural production; manufacturing of safe products such as yogurt, lipstick and bird's nest; automatic scales; fruit and vegetable dryer and start-up coffee, according to M.A Do Quoc Viet, Director of Center for Enterprise Relations and Student Support, Nha Trang University.
 
In addition, the university has signed cooperation agreements with 115 businesses. The businesses get involved in contributing ideas to improve the training program of the school, based on the needs and capacity of the two sides to improve the quality of human resources. specifically, Minh Phu Group commits to provide VND 50 billion funding for training 100 students in 5 consecutive courses of 2 industries of aquaculture and aquaculture processing technology (VND10 billion/ course).
 
The university is gradually building a startup and innovation ecosystem with a suitable roadmap, specifically, organizing more than 10 events on business start-up and innovation/school year; sending more than 20 officials and lecturers to courses on business start-up and innovation; adding business start-up and innovation module; developing a mentor team; setting up business start-up funds and so on.
 
According to PhD. Quach Hoai Nam, Vice-Principal of Nha Trang University, in the coming time, the university will continue strengthening applied research projects at national, provincial levels, and sub-projects, etc.; enhancing the role of institutes and centers to research, develop production processes and models, conduct experimental research, and apply scientific research results, serving science-technology transfer and commercialization of products; forming science and technology transfer process; establish a list of  focused products and technologies for investment; building and developing  a program to promote the university's research products; forming strategic partners, focusing on projects on high-quality human resource training and research; lecturer and student exchange, giving priority to marine science and technology; fisheries, etc.
 
The university will continue implementing its business start-up and innovation strategies, period 2021-2025; cooperating with the provincial Young Entrepreneurs’ Association to support start-up ecosystem, network and innovation; building incubator space; providing business startup and innovation training; promoting community participation in the Startup Funds.
