Khanh Hoa Department of Health has just given guidance on the rollout of additional primary shots and booster doses of Covid-19 vaccines (third and fourth doses). 
 
The Department of Health issued an official document No. 1952 guidance on the administration of the Covid-19 booster shots (third and fourth doses) on May 11. Accordingly, the fully-vaccinated are those aged 5 to under 18 having received 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines; adults having taken 2 doses of the same or mixed vaccines of AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna.

Administering Covid-19 vaccines.
 
 
Adults having received 2 doses of Vero Cell vaccines are recommended to take additional doses of the same vaccine type or AstraZeneca, Pfizer or Moderna to be fully vaccinated. 
 
An additional primary shot of a Covid-19 vaccine (the third dose) is given to adults aged 18 or older with priority to those with underlying health conditions and in need of long-term medical care at health facilities; people in charge of Covid-19 testing, treatment and care, health care workers.  There should be a gap of at least 3 months from the last dose.
 
The fourth dose is given to those aged over 50, adults with weakened immune systems, those at risk of exposure to the virus like frontline healthcare staff and workers in industrial zones. The 2 doses must be at least 4 months apart while those who have been infected with Covid-19 should wait for three months after recovery to get vaccinated.
 
Under the Ministry of Health’s guidance, adults are required to get the first and second booster shots to increase their immunization against new variants of Covid 19 in safe adaption and response to the pandemic, ensuring the socio-economic growth.
 
Additional primary shots are required for those aged 50 or older having received 2 basic doses and adults with immunodeficiency (recipients of solid-organ transplant, those with cancer, HIV infection, etc.), having received 2 doses of Vero Cell vaccines. The 2 doses must be at least 28 days to 3 months apart.
 
For those determined for an additional dose will not be considered fully vaccinated until having received the additional dose. After that, the 1st and 2nd booster doses will be followed according to the Ministry of Health’s instructions to ensure immunity against new variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. 
 
Booster shots and additional doses are available at medical stations in communes, wards and towns. Besides, Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control is administering the fourth doses of Covid-19 vaccines, said Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health Nguyen Dinh Thoan.
