Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has agreed in principle to pilot the operation of electric tourist cars and required strict management to ensure the compliance with traffic safety regulations and technical standards.

In 2016, the Prime Minister approved in principle pilot tours by electric cars in some cities and provinces, including Khanh Hoa. As stated in the Document No. 33 dated January 6, 2016, the Prime Minister assigned the Provincial People’s Committee to take responsibility for stipulating and organizing the implementation, specifying the operation time and routes, ensuring traffic safety and compliance with the road traffic law.

In April 2016, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee approved the pilot operation of electric cars until December 31, 2016. The trial time is extended every year based on the Department of Transport’s proposal to the Provincial People’s Committee.

3 companies in Nha Trang City involved in the operation with 33 vehicles include Sao Mai Service Company, Ltd., Nha Trang Seafood F17 Hot Mineral - Tourist Joint Stock Company and Hai Dao Tourist Joint Stock Company.

The electric vehicles are allowed to run along such streets as Tran Phu, Pham Van Dong, Nguyen Khuyen, Dang Tat, Xom Con, Tran Hung Dao, Pasteur, Hung Vuong, Tran Quang Khai and to some tourist transactions in Nha Trang City.

According to Nguyen Van Dan, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transportation, the Ministry of Transport has not given any conclusion or evaluation about the pilot operation of electric vehicles yet. However, it is undeniable that electric vehicles are environmentally friendly and energy efficient, considered as a safe and “green way” to tour Nha Trang City. As they run at slow speed, no accidents related to electric cars have been reported so far.

At the recent meeting, Nguyen Tan Tuan has approved in principle the pilot operation of electric tourist cars and assigned the Department of Transport to coordinate with the Provincial Department of Public Security in directing functional forces to strengthen inspection of the operation of vehicles to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations, ensuring traffic safety.
