Hands-on training and career orientation activities have been flexibly organized at high schools in Khanh Hoa Province to provide opportunities for students to discover and develop their capacities and skills.

Flexible training

In 2021-2022 school year, both direct and online classes are being held in adaptation to the Covid-19 situation “We have founded clubs of martial art and aptitudes, inspiring students to develop their interests and nurture their talents. The school has operated 5 clubs, including 4 of martial art, ensuring each student joins at least 1 club. Every club has at least 1 young teacher engaged in the guidance and support,” said Tran Bao Huy, Sectary of the School Youth Union.

Hands-on training activities are organized on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, Youth Union’s foundation anniversary, etc. at Vo Van Ky Junior High School, Nha Trang City. The school has also established a STEM club with a participation of many teachers and students; developed a hands-on training plan for 6th-graders with 105 periods/year during flag ceremonies; class activities and club activities.

Hands-on training and career orientation to be improved

According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training, due to the ongoing coronavirus, it is impossible to organize field trips, but the flexibility in lesson planning together with the creativity in teaching has created a pleasant learning atmosphere. Familiar topics about families, schools and traditions are integrated into lessons has helped enhance learners’ interest and keep them motivated. Learning periods/ day/ week are reduced in order to partly relieve stress during online learning, said Phan Thanh Chung, Principal of Nguyen Hien High School, Nha Trang City.

The Department of Education and Training has directed schools to well implement teaching schemes in adaptation to the pandemic. Hands-on training and career orientation activities should be organized in various forms during flag ceremonies, class meetings, extracurricular activities, hands-on learning, club activities, clubs of interest, competitions, workshops, field trips and so on.

Moreover, schools need to innovate teaching and evaluation methods towards building learner capacity; strengthen the inspection and supervision over hands-on training and career orientation activities inside or outside school from lesson planning to assessment activities. In the coming time, the department will boost propaganda and raise awareness of parents, school staff and the public of the meaning and importance of hands-on training and career orientation; promote the role of the Youth Union in coordinating and organizing hands-on training and career orientation activities, according to Vo Hoan Hai, Director of the Department of Education and Training.
