Nha Trang City has planned to add more green space by green architectures, green walls and flower trellises on streets, making good use of small land area from now to 2025.

Making good use of urban area

The first-class Nha Trang City still has not met the required minimum of 10-12 m2 of green area/ person. The green space standard on streets is 9-2.2m2/person while the city now has only 0.78m2 of green area/person. There are around 19,600 shady trees along 200 streets.

According to Nguyen Thanh Van, Deputy Director of Nha Trang City Management Board of Construction Projects, the existing green space is not enough in terms of density due to narrow sidewalks together with other pedestrian facilities in the public right-of-way. The upgrading and widening of streets, namely Thong Nhat, Phan Boi Chau and Nguyen Trai, have also impacted the trees. Many trees were removed and replanted and it takes time for them to mature.

The development of urban green space along streets and in parks need a large land area while the land fund remaining in the city is not much. According to the project, to develop green space while saving land areas, the city will apply such measures as creating green walls, flower trellis; renovate and decorate tree rings. Flower trellis is an optimal solution for urban green areas on narrow streets. At the foot of overpasses not yet under embellishment planning, green walls will be created together with the combination of artistic paintings and the lighting system to contribute to the urban beauty.

Green design prioritized in urban center

According to the urban green space development project in Nha Trang City by 2025, the city will aim to develop green space by efficient green architectural approach. Specifically, the green roof solution known as adding a layer of vegetation to rooftops is expected to help take advantage of the upper space of architectural blocks in urban built-up areas. Nha Trang City is studying some projects, namely Farming Kindergarten in Dong Nai Province, awarded the gold award at A'design Award & Competition 2017 - 2018 - the world's leading design award. The green roof is a triple-ring-shape drawn with a single stroke; creating 3 courtyards as safe playground for kids.

Regarding green solution for high buildings, the rapid urbanization together with increasingly high population density has affected the green space planning. Growing plants in rooms, on balconies or in gardens helps create connectivity with the nature and thus raises public awareness of the green environment and its benefits. The community involvement is urged to effectively develop green space.
