Safeguarding workers against exposure to Covid-19 infection

Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control conducted Covid-19 rapid diagnostic testing for all workers at Suoi Dau Industrial Zone on July 12. Besides the provincial mission also checked the pandemic prevention and control in 34 enterprises in industrial zones in an attempt to protect workers from exposure to Covid-19 infection.
 
Pandemic monitoring in industrial zones
 
Due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic, 34 enterprises have implemented preventive measures, ensuring cleaning and disinfection; setting up isolation rooms and maintaining distancing in dining rooms. Workers have become more aware of the infection risks.
 
CDC Khanh Hoa in cooperation with the Management Board of Van Phong Economic Zone took samples from workers in musical zones for rapid Covid-19 diagnostic testing on July 12 to prevent the spread of the pandemic in factories. At the entrance into industrial zones, medical staff and security guards have set up checkpoints for medical declaration and body temperature measurement.

“Under Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, CDC Khanh Hoa cooperated with the Management Board of Van Phong Industrial Zone and relevant departments and agencies to take samples from more than 10,000 workers on July 12 and 13. Apart from disinfection on July 13 reduce the risks of contagion and spread of the new coronavirus, we have checked the pandemic prevention and control measures and given practical guidance at factories to assure safety in workplace,” said Nguyen Duc Tinh, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases Control, CDC Khanh Hoa.
 
Self-contained procedures
 
To maintain stable operation and production, enterprises in Suoi Dau Industrial Zone have started to implement self-contained procedures to keep workers away from the community outside. More than 2,000 employees have stayed in hotels or workers’ houses after work. The accommodation and meal cost is paid by enterprises.
 
In the coming time, enterprises are responsible for transporting workers and preparing shift meals safely. Partial or complete blockades will be set up as soon as a Covid-19 case is detected. Positive case must be kept isolated in place and swiftly reported to local medical authority, according to Nguyen Trong Hoang, Head of the Management Board of Van Phong Economic Zone.
 
Nguyen Van Du, Director of Tuna Vietnam Company, Ltd. said, “We have taken measures to prevent the workplace from the infection. 550 workers have got rapid Covid-19 testing. From July 9, more than 200 workers have remained at the workplace. Besides, the company has rent hotels in Nha Trang City for over 300 workers. Daily pick-up or drop-off and security service have been offered to safeguard the workforce against exposure to Covid-19 infection.
 
Dragon Waves Company, Ltd. has also provided accommodation for approximately 300 male workers at the company and rent hotels for some 200 female workers. Daily pick-up or drop-off service is offered to make sure workers have no close contact with others outside the workplace. Together with workplace disinfection, the company has allocated separate rooms for F3 individuals during work and breaks together with meals to keep them in good health. 
 
Gallant Ocean Vietnam Company, Ltd. has ramped up measures to protect employees from exposure to the infection risks. Workers from pandemic-hit Ninh Hoa Town are temporarily furloughed. Others must present certificates of negative SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test results. The testing cost is paid by the company. The company has ensured accommodation for 500 workers. 40 workers registered for accommodation at the workplace until July 12.
