Due to the unprecedented Covid-19 outbreak, Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People’s Committee and all the political system are making every effort to control the Covid-19 outbreak with some amendment to tools in navigating the pandemic. Dr. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of the Department of Health, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Human Disease Prevention and Control has shared some information and ideas about the issue.

Khanh Hoa Province has seen Covid-19 surge initiating from 2 patients from Phu Yen. The cases of community transmission have been mostly in Nha Trang City and Ninh Hoa Town since the end of June. Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and the Provincial Steering Committee for Human Disease Prevention and Control have implemented various measures to combat the disease. However, new cases still keep rising every day. Therefore, the province has decided to impose the social distancing order under the Prime Minister’ Directive No. 16 on Nha Trang City, Ninh Hoa Town and Van Ninh District and the Directive No. 15’s social distancing order on other localities within 14 days starting on July 9.

The Covid-19 cases are mostly related to the highly transmissible Delta variant from Patient 17725, who bought fish at Hon Ro Fishing Port. More new cases of Covid-19 community transmission are expected in Khanh Hoa in coming days. The province is taking good advantage of social distancing to boost  RT-PCR testing to 10,000 samples/day and antigen-detecting rapid diagnostic testing to 15,000 samples/day.

Khanh Hoa Center for Disease Control has been equipped with 4 RT-PCR testing machines with a capacity of 10,000 samples/day. Besides, with the support from Military Hospital 87, Vinmec Hospital, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and Pasteur Nha Trang Institute, the testing capacity in the province is able to reach 15,000 samples/day, meeting the requirement.

4 makeshift hospitals have been founded at Khanh Hoa Hospital of Tropical Diseases, Hospital of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, Venero-Dermatology Hospital and Ninh Diem General Hospital in Khanh Hoa Province with a capacity of 450 beds since July 6.

In case of emergency, the Department of Health will convert Cam Lam District General Hospital into a 150-bed makeshift hospital and set up another at the national defense training center (Provincial Military Headquarters) with 300 beds.

If the number of new cases continues increasing, the department will set up more makeshift hospitals in the dormitories of colleges and universities in the province. Equipment and human resources for the field hospitals will be mobilized by the Department of Health from hospitals in the province to meet treatment needs.

In addition, the province has run 3 phases of Covid-19 vaccination for more than 31,000 people. The 4th phase is scheduled to take place in late July for over 24,000 people. Approximately 1 million people are expected to get vaccinated against Covid-19 in the 2021 – 2022 period, accounting for 98% of the provincial population.

“With the presence of the highly contagious delta variant, the Covid-19 road ahead is uncertain. However, with the synchronous response initiatives and the joint effort of the authorities at all levels and local residents, I believe Khanh Hoa will soon control the pandemic. To support the province in the pandemic control, I hope local residents to strictly follow the 5K guidance and all other preventive regulations, especially during the social distancing period,” said Dr. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of the Department of Health, Head of  the Provincial Steering Committee for Human Disease Prevention and Control.
